Clap Shot

Clap shot is made with potatoes and turnips.  It can be used as a main course or served with meat dishes - like haggis.  The Irish American ancestry in me is why I use sour cream instead of butter and milk.

Garlic is another good addition and can be used with or instead of the green onions.

1 lb turnips
1 lb potatoes
1 pint of sour cream
2  bundles of green onions
salt & pepper to taste

Boil potatoes and turnips together until tender.  Drain thoroughly.  Mash with sour cream adding cream in ½ cup increments until right consistency.  If too thick, add milk.  Thinly slice onions and add to mash.  Salt and pepper to taste.

(If too thin, place over heat and simmer to the right consistency, stirring constantly to prevent burning / scorching.)
