What is Aromatherapy?

I love Aromatherapy. Of course I do, that was why I went to college and got my diploma.

I love everything about Aromatherapy. I love the oils and the smell and feel of them. I love the way the make me feel both physically and mentally. I love the way they give me a lift when I'm depressed and ease my sore body after a rough day with the kids. I LOVE Aromatherapy.

But, what is Aromatherapy? Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to holistically help someone either through directly applying to the body or through inhalation.

Holistically? Aromatherapy addresses physical, mental and spiritual ill's. It is a wonderful compliment to modern medicine and in a lot of cases it is an alternative.

Aromatherapy is NOT a magical panacea to cure all ills. It is NOT those bath salts or that nice smelling face cream you bought in the local shop. Also, it is NOT that pretty smelling candle or that room freshner called "relaxation".  Why not? Because although they may contain real essential oils, they will not contain enough to do anyone any harm or any good.

And THAT is what Makes SMELLENNIUM different. Here, we address each case individually. We can choose which oils will suit each person and not the local horde, thereby making our products actually useful.

When did man first use Aromatherapy? When he ate his first fruit, when he used the first leaf to bind his wound, when he smelled the first flower, since the dawn of his beginning.

A few facts: Essential oils. Those little tiny bottle of hideously expensive oils, well they are the essences of the plants extracted through steam distillation, expression with the use of alcohol or CO2. Some plants contain a lot of oil (such as the citrus plants)and so the cost of the process to remove the oil is relatively little, some plants (such as the rose) has very little oil contained within their flowers and therefore are extremely expensive.

Fact: MORE IS NOT BETTER! If there is ever one thing you believe about using essential oils, that one is the golden rule. For one, the oils are expensive and for another, they can potentially do you harm.

ALWAYS know as much as you possibly can before you use any essential oil. NEVER use any essential oil on it's own, without a carrier oil, with the exception of Lavender and Tea-Tree. And NEVER NEVER NEVER ingest any oils.

My last piece of advice is to try and find a GOOD professional Aromatherapist. One who has actually taken a good comprehensive course and not just a weekend one. Ask about their course, no reputable Aromatherapist would be reluctant to discuss it with you. If you can't find one, come here, we are always willing to answer any question you might have.  Remember, "A Little Knowledge is a Dangerous Thing," so watch out for
        the charletons!

May your life always be filled with the music of the breeze and the magic of flowers.
