        Aromatherapy Lesson Six

How’s it going? You managing to hang in there?  Well if you are, CONGRATULATIONS!  There have been a lot of people who have found this too difficult or too boring and have dropped it.

So pat yourselves on the back for sticking with it.  You deserve it!

One note about last week's lesson.  It was pointed out to me, then when given the amounts for the massage oil, I was not very clear.   When I said 1 tablespoon or 15 mls only were needed for a massage, I meant, of carrier oil WITH the oils.  NOT 15 mls or 1 tablespoon of Essential Oils.

This week’s lesson is on Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea), Steam Distilled.

Got your Q-tips at the ready?  Are you sniffing?  There are some of you who like to delve into the metaphysical side of things.  Are you able to figure out if they’re yin or yang, which Chakra they correspond with, and which crystal they go with?

What about your notes?  Are they top notes, middle notes or bass notes?

Clary is a wonderful oil and is quite invaluable in Aromatherapy, especially when used for PMS, depression and in the labor room.

Safety information:  Do not use in large amounts as it can cause a "hangover" type headache.  Do not use when one has been drinking or using recreational drugs; do not use on women who are pregnant (except in the labor stage), or with any conditions that are estrogen connected (such as breast cancer, endrimitriosis etc.).  Also a possible skin irritant and those with very delicate and sensitive skin.

        Main Chemical Components: Esters

Clary is extremely useful for regulating the menstrual cycle, PMS, painful periods, labor pains, brings on menstration, post-natal depression, depression in general, migraine, nervous tension, stress, fear, impotence, frididity, genital infections, is an aid in labor and childbirth, colic, cramp, constipation, possibly lowers high blood pressure, asthma, throat infection, whooping cough, wrinkles, dandruff, hair losse, oil skin and hair, a possible skin cell regenerator, fungal infections.

Uses/actions: anti-epileptic, anticonvulsive, antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anti sudorific, aphrodisiac, astringent, anti-infectious, antifungal, carminative, cicatrizant, deodorant, digestive, emmenagogue, hypotensive, nervine, parturient, relaxant, seborrhea regulator, sedative, stomachic, tonic.

Use only 2 drops of Clary Sage per tablespoon.

In what would would dilute essential oils?  Creams, lotions, milk (especially recommended for the bath), water, and carrier oils, waxes, etc.  See if you can think of any that I haven’t posted, and there are quite a few.

And there you go. A fairly SHORT Lesson this time.  Cheers!

Final exam question:   What is an Aromatherapist? Easy Question? We'll see.  Remember, I would like to see your answer at the END of the course.
