PetridesWhat is this course about?
This course is presented to promote safe and satisfactory uses of Essential Oils for the ritual and for the home. It is designed to kick out the ideas of "More is better" and "Dangerous is exciting and best" that seem to run rampant in the Pagan community.
The use of Essential Oils and plant products has been popular down through the ages from incense, to pomades, perfumes and sachets, in hopes of warding off plaque, body odor, for preserving the dead, beautiful and young and of course to offering’s to ones Gods.
Today we are "re-discovering" our pagan roots and the use of Essential Oils to enhance our rituals and our general atmosphere, the knowledge of the safe use of these potent forces of nature have been few and difficult to find, so we’ve had to feel our way forward, which at times seems to have gotten way out of hand, with spells calling for twelve different oils and way too much of each one.
Hopefully this course will help to correct some of this, and to help you discover how these oils can expand your horizons and your way of worshiping in a safe and happy way, albeit without the thrill of danger being present.
The term "Essential Oil" is a bit misleading as the result is not really an oil, but the essence of the plant. You will find that the Essences of the plant often will not smell the same as the flower on the bush, and a lot of people are disappointed when they smell the oil for the first time. However, the more you smell them, the more you notice about them. The depth, whether it smells "earthy" or "light", if the odor lasts or is shortly gone, whether it smells "right" or "off".
There will be SOME technical language that comes into this course, but I will do my best to keep it to a bare minimum and stick to the main ritual uses for these oils.
You will NOT see me discussing oils that are considered toxic and dangerous during this course, oils such as Dragons Blood, Mugwort, Wormwood etc, which are completely un-necessary in ritual as there are so many safer and CHEAPER alternatives.
During each lesson I will try and present one or two simple spells that require only a few oils. While there is no doubt that there is great sensory pleasure in mixing up lots of different oils to make a spell, you will find that most times, it is not necessary.
Hopefully, during this course, if you don’t already have your own oils, you will obtain some, and enjoy the journey of discovering your own oils particular "signature", and how to use them safely to please your Gods and yourself.
Next week, I will start with Lavender oil.
I hope this course will be fun as well as educational. Please leave any questions or comments on the message board and I will get to them as soon as I can.
Bright Blessing
