Thomas Scott
I didn't realize my first son, Tommy, had reflux as a baby until I learned about reflux when my second son was diagnosed. I thought back on Tommy's first year of life and realized that that his spitting up, crying, pain, and "colic" weren't typical baby troubles. Our biggest problem with Tommy, though, was sleep. Tommy was an uneasy sleeper from birth, but we managed fairly well until we started having expectations about how he "should" be sleeping. I regret that it took us about a year to finally accept Tommy's nighttime needs as they were, and quit trying to squeeze him into a mold he clearly didn't fit in. What a relief for all of us to simply go to bed at night and rest peacefully!
