donated money for the restoration of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.
This grave site of Corporal William Campbell , He served in Co. I of the 30th Ohio Vol. Infantry. He was award the Medal of Honor for brave service during the Battle of Vickburg, Mississippi.Coporal Campbell was buried at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
In 1944, The Crocker Woman's Relief Corp. erected this monument the
east side of the Capital ground. This monument is honoring the memory of
the Crocker Post No.12, Department of Iowa, Grand Army of the Republic
that was organized in 1879. The Dept. of Iowa, Grand Army of the Republic
was disbanded in 1939.
In 1926, The Ladies Auxiliary of Grenville M. Dodge Camp #75 placed this plaque on a rock in front of Polk County Courthouse. This monument was erected to honor the Polk County Civil War Veterans who went off to war to keep our union as one during the War of Rebellion.The Companies and Regiments who were from Polk County are on the Monument at Courthouse in Des Moines, Iowa.
