If you have happened upon this page and don't know what the BeOS is, you can find out by going to the Be Inc. web site at http://www.be.com/ |
|
The Be website also has a page with an excellent
PPP troubleshooting guide at |
Now, on to the fun!
Before we begin you will need to know a few things:
What COM or Serial port is my modem
currently using?
If you are using anything but COM3 or 4, you will also need to know
What the IRQ and I/O ranges for the COM port being used are.
(look here for a list)
IMPORTANT NOTE: These instructions are for internal true hardware ISA modems when used with Release 4.5 and above of the BeOS. If you are using Release 4 you can go HERE. If you have a 'winmodem' you will need to stop and attach a different modem, (or refer to http://www.benews.com/net/ where you will find instructions for some Lucent and PCTel based soft-modems). Most software based 'winmodems' use the Rockwell HCF chip, identified in Windows device manager as an "HCF modem enumerator".
If you are using a PCI modem the following steps
will probably not work for your particular hardware. You will need to
refer to http://www.benews.com/net/ or
to my own much more limited page Here.
NOTE: BeNews has an
article on setting up true hardware PCI modems. Go HERE for more information.

Now you should be able to configure "DialUpNetworking" (under
"Preferences") to use the device you have just added.
If you want step by step instructions for DialUpNetworking go HERE
