Now, on to the fun!

Before we begin you will need to know a few things:

  • 1) Click the "Be" button
  • 2) Click "Preferences"
  • 3) Start the "Devices" application

  • 4) Select "File" menu
  • 5) Select "New Jumpered Device" submenu
  • 6) In "Device Name", give your device a name (i.e. Modem)

  • 7) In "Device Type", select the "Communication Device" menu
  • 8) Select "Serial Controller" submenu
  • 9) For the "IRQ" setting area, select 3
  • 10) Ignore the "DMA" settings area
  • 11) In "I/O Port Ranges", click on "New"
  • 12) In the "Start: 0x" row, the last 00 on the right is already highlighted (see the blue trim and the shaded 00?), so press the down arrow key eight times to get a value of f8

  • 13) Click on the 00 to the left of f8 and press the up arrow key twice to get a value of 02 (should look like 'Start: 0x |00 00 02 f8|')
  • 14) Move down to the "Length: 0x" row and click on the 01 (at the far right) make sure you see the blue trim and the highlighted 01, and use the up arrow key seven times to get a value of 08 (should look like 'Length: 0x |00 00 00 08|')
  • 15) If all the values were entered in correctly, you will see "End: 0x02ff", to the right of the "Start: 0x" row

  • 16) Click "Done"  (Hurrah, horay, time to save the day. :)
  • 17) Close the "New Jumpered Device..." window (which now has the name of the device you named) and click on "Save" to save changes
  • 18) Close "Devices" tool window

Now you should be able to configure "DialUpNetworking" (under "Preferences") to use the device you have just added.
