Denver Songwriting Group

I participate in a group of Denver-area songwriters that meets on the 2nd Friday of every month. The goal is to write a new song every month. We drink beer or wine, play our new song for the group, receive feedback and constructive criticism. Everybody becomes a better songwriter as a result, plus we just have a good time. If you're a songwriter--at any level--and would like to join us, email Eddie Wesselhoff at eddiewess@gmail.com and he'll add you to the email list.

Recommended Songwriting Books

Tunesmith by Jimmy Webb. Knowledge of basic music theory necessary for some chapters.

Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg. For all creative writing, not just songwriting.

The Poetry Home Repair Manual: Practical Advice for Beginning Poets by Ted Kooser. Although about poets and poetry, the tips apply to songwriters as well. Great book.

Songwriting Websites

Jeff Oxenford, a member of our Denver Songwriting Group, has a good site.

Ed Skibbe of Denver has songwriting tips on his site, and offers mentoring sessions.

And I just started a blog, which is mostly about songwriting. Click here or the link on the left navigation bar.
