INFORMED PUPPY BUYER DO YOUR HOME WORK

High fencing and escape proof yards are a must - they are great escape artists and they love to dig.
When outside the home, they must
be
kept on a leash at all times, as a free Siberian will just keep on running
and you may never see them again. They are not a guard dog they are a people
dog! so any intruder would get a great big lick hello.
HIP DYSPLASIA:
Although Hip Dysplasia is not high in the Breed,
it is there. All breeding stock must be
x-rayed by a qualified Radiologist. The more undiagnosed
stock that are used for breeding the bigger the problem will get.
EYE DISEASE
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)
From a pup through to 3 years of age the dog may
begin to suffer "night Blindness" which
deteriorates into total blindness. Both eyes are
always effected. There is no known treatment.
Cataracts:
The lens of the eye becomes clouded and is usually
present in both eyes. The disease usually occurs in very young dogs and
gets progressively worse until
sight is lost completely often by 2 to 3 years
of age.
Corneal
Dystrophy:
The disease appears as a gray white opaque lesion
situated in the central corneal region. The lesions can appear from 2 months
of age up to 8 years. This disease appears in other breeds but progression
to visual impairment has only been recorded in the Siberian.
REPUTABLE BREEDERS:
It is important to be aware of back yard breeders and "puppy mills" their only concern is to make money.
They are not doing it for the betterment of the breed.
Always buy your Siberian from a Reputable Breeder, be informed and ask questions.
Make sure your puppies Sire and Dam have current Eye and Hip Certificates.
Make sure your puppy comes with AKC Papers if you are going to show your puppy or Limited Registration Papers with a spay /neuter contract if you are purchasing a pet.
Make Sure your new puppy comes with a health guarantee.
Your puppy should have had his 1st shot, been wormed and come with full Care and Diet insructions.
After you take your puppy home, your Breeder should
be there to help you with any questions or problems that may arise.
