Task:
What is Junior to do? How will he return to Mr. Don’s classroom? It is your job to help Junior return home safely. You must provide the chief alien enough information to be able to pass out of the Cyberzone.
Your teacher will assign you to groups of four to investigate the Solar System. Your group may choose or the teacher will assign you one of the following positions. Following this list of assignments there is a chart showing what your grade will be when the chief alien looks at your work.
RECORDER - The recorder is responsible for maintaining the research notes. Review forms and prepare a final log book to turn into the librarian. You will double check all forms looking at the sources to make sure everything is accurate and correct.
Research Source Log, you can print.
EXPLORER - You are responsible for locating Internet sites dealing with the assigned subject. You are responsible for giving source information to your recorder and printing information needed. Locate the links selected below and find other links about your subject. Print your Research Notes Log. Record your new information and the sources. If you need to use a search engine to find links for your subject contact your librarian.
CYBRARIAN - You are responsible for locating information in the school library. You are to check out books and to check reference books on your subject. Give your source information to your recorder. If you are not sure how to use the school OPAC see #2 and #3 below. Click here for the Research Notes Log, you can print.
PRESENTER - You are responsible for presenting to the chief alien a summary of the information to be able to leave the Cyberzone. You must read logs and consult with the others in your group to be able to explain the information found and how they found it. From this information you will design the presentation for your classroom by using FrontPage, PowerPoint, or a display board.. Print your Research Summary Log.If you need help learning to use FrontPage, or PowerPoint, use the links listed in #5 below. By the way, your chief alien is ready to answer any questions and is your local librarian.
Procedure: Your project must be about the assigned topic the "Solar System". In your group, compile a list of "What you know about the Solar System," and "What you want to know," and from this list decide what your group is going to discover. Your research must find three reference books, three internet sites, and three non-fiction books. Then, summarize what you learned from reading these sources. Prepare a presentation for your classroom teacher.
