EDUCATION AND THE INTERNET

M. E. King states, "The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery"  I have been in pursuit of discovery for the last twenty-five years and have attempted to assist others in the public and private arena to discover the joy of the chase.  It is my goal to continue that objective by becoming up-to-date in the technology field.  The overwhelming influence of technology cannot be ignored and must be utilized for continuing in any educational pursuit.  For the elementary level of education, mentors have a responsibility for providing more than a skeletal foundation to prepare the coming generations.  As educators we must not only recognize that technology exists, but be able to use the resources available and understand how it works to guide and inspire others.

As computer acquisitions have increased in the schools and student access to them, it has become evident that our focus on the traditional learning process is evolving.  What was happening in the classroom even five years ago has drastically changed to a constructivist philosophy.  If this transitions is to be smooth at all, we need to change ourselves first.  The attractiveness of technology has already influenced the children with whom we will have contact.  We cannot expect their respect without using the tools they enjoy.  It is my goal to investigate the best use or practice of technology in the classroom and adapt its use with my students.
