EDUCATION

In the fall of 1970 I received a BA Psychology from San Francisco State University. I attended ASU from, 1971-1972, and received my Arizona Elementary Teaching Certificate with a Library Endorsement for Grades K-12. I did my classroom student-teaching in 6th Grade at Roosevelt Elementary School in Mesa, and my Library-student teaching in the Library at Evans Elementary School in Tempe.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My first and only classroom experience came in 1973, when my husband and I taught at Colegio Jorge Washington, in Cartageņa, Colombia, SA.  I taught 5th grade, and one class per day of 11th Grade Typing.  It was a wonderful experience.

Upon returning to the United States in 1974, I was hired as a Media Specialist at Grandview School (Grades 5-8) in the Osborn School District.  I worked there through February 1983, when I resigned my position to take care of my newly adopted son. A second son was welcomed into our family  in 1985.  I was a "stay at home" Mom, until 1990, when I  returned to Grandview School (renamed Osborn Middle School ) as a Media Specialist, serving 7th and 8th Grade students.   In 1991 I  received my ESL endorsement .

During my career as Media Specialist, I have held other positions in addition to my role as Library Media Specialist.   For several years I  taught Typing (7th and 8th grades),  an Honors Reading class, Beginning Spanish, an honors Research Class , as well as Study Skills classes.

I am presently employed at Osborn Middle School  and enrolled in a Masters program , with a Concentration in Technology/Math and Science.  from the  ASU West College of Education.  I am eager to learn all I can about using Technology to improve my skills, and the skills of the students and teachers that I serve.

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

From my perspective as a Library Media specialist, Education is about ACCESS.  Access to caring, enthusiastic, professional teachers, administrators and support staff.  Access to  a safe, stimulating and adequately equipped learning environment, and of course access to information, technologies that can deliver information in a variety of modes to a diverse student population.

The task of education is to provide an equal opportunity for all student to learn "how to learn".  Teaching should be about guiding students in learning  how to access, evaluate and construct their own knowledge from the vast amount of information that exists and is constantly changing.  Education is the on-going process of creating life-long learner and problem-solvers.
