PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
OCTOBER, 2008 - ISSUE NO. 77
We sure had very nice weather and a good turnout for our annual picnic at my mini-ranch in August. Thanks to Ed Lucas for providing the salmon. I'll have copies of the group photos for you to have at the meeting. This month, we are combining the meeting into 2 parts: first we'll have 3 breakouts groups - 1 for colostomates, 1 for ileostomates and 1 for urostomates, each conducted by a ET Nurse. This is the opportunity for you to hear from your fellow ostomates about their problems and successes. Next we'll carve pumpkins: bring one to the meeting with a carving knife- and scooper. Also, bring a small refreshment to share (such as a dessert). Of' course you coo not have to bring anything but yourself (and significant other if you want). On a sad note, I have experienced 2 losses in the last 2 months. My Dad passed away in Fort Lauderdale, Florida of colon cancer, then Louis Thompson, an.:original member and previous president of this support group passed away. Louis had contacted me even before I arrived here back in 1990. He was on the mailing list of my previous ostomy support group. in their newsletter was my thank you letter stating that I was moving to Eagle, Idaho. Louis tracked me down and shortly thereafter I was his successor. I'll sure miss talking to my Dad about the and putting together this newsletter with Louis- every successes of the Boise State Broncos other month.
At the meeting I'll hand out resumes of the 4 candidates running for 2 seats on the UOAA Board, of Directors. We can prorate the votes according to the o of our member's preferences and I have to send the results to the UOAA afterwards. Also, you can log onto the new UOAA blog at either www.uoaa.org or http://uoaa.wordpress.com/ .
I have a UOAA "Ileostomy Patient Resource Guide" and " a "Colostomy Resource Guide". I can order 6 of each at a time at a shipping cost of $5 for six. Let me know if your want one.
Hope to see you on Monday, October 27th at 7:15pm.

ET CORNER
Welcome to our new members. This meeting is special and will be a great time
for meeting people with the same stoma surgery as you have had and live with
successfully everyday!!. We will have an ostomy nurse for each group so those
with ileo, colo or uro ostomies can meet and discuss issues particular to your
type of surgery. You' may be having no issues or concerns but this is a time to
learn the "tricks of thetrade" from others who have lived with an ostomy. Please
join us for an evening of sharing and learning. So you experienced folks need to
be there to share your tips.
