Ms. Linda Salas

Boulder County Clerk and Recorder

1750 33rd St.

Boulder, CO  80301

Dear Ms. Salas:

We understand that the contract you have negotiated for printing ballots includes two options.  Option one is for secret ballots using perforated, removable ballot stubs.  Option two is for non-secret ballots.

As you know, voting by secret ballot has long been a cornerstone of American democracy, and this practice should not be lightly abandoned.  Moreover, Article 7, Section 8 of the Colorado Constitution specifically provides that "no ballots shall be marked in any way whereby the ballot can be identified as the ballot of the person casting it."

In the interest of preserving the secret ballot as one of the fundamental safeguards over the integrity of Colorado’s electoral process, the Boulder County Republicans ask you to select the secret ballot option both for the Republican Primary ballots and for Boulder County ballots generally.

Thank you,
