2/5/2004 Agenda

Tuning The Wait Interface Way

Stephen Andert

This presentation will provide attendees with the tools that they can use to successfully tune database performance problems using Wait Analysis. By using the features available in the Oracle database, this is a fairly simple process that can help DBA’s identify the cause of performance bottlenecks.

The attendees will leave this presentation knowing more about Wait Interface is and how to effectively use it and Wait Analysis in general to enhance database system performance even when the problem is not in the database itself.

This presentation will cover how to use the V$ dynamic performance views of the Wait Interface as well as how the 10046 Trace can be used to identify the cause of slow-running jobs.

Attendees will leave this presentation with a better understanding of a process that can be followed to identify the cause of performance bottlenecks.

10g, Don't Get Outsourced, Get Educated

Steve Lemme

Today there is a trend that IT employees being operational myopic can be replaced at a lower cost to the business. Although that may be true, those IT professionals who are savvy and eager to learn more about how they can add value to business and communicate it effectively, will have
a better chance at job retainment and future promotion. Many times the job definition of a Database Administrator's (DBA's) responsibilities are misunderstood. This session will discuss how the role of Database Administrator (DBA) is changing with the release of Oracle 10g. Armed with this information, a DBA is better prepared to positively enhance
their career path and communicate their value at review time as well as at times of layoffs.
