ARES ARMAMENTS CONSORTIUM

ARES ARMAMENTS CONSORTIUM

A growing industry located on the [undiscovered] city of Fremont in what was once Northern California has recently began to export small quantities of high-quality combat equipment and vehicles. Unlike many manufacturers, they specialize in heavy vehi cles. They have also produced a few light vehicles as well as aerial fighters. With an emphasis on modularity in their products, their high price is offset by their ease of maintenance and the heavy damage-inflicting capability of their products. Popular in many larger mercenary companies, it should be noted that the promise of the company to deliver within 48 hours holds true. A popular incident revolves around an outnumbered unit contacting Ares for an emergency shipment of an CENTURION MBT; 10 hours later, the airlifted MBT was deposited a mere 10 miles away from an ordering mercenary band, then driven to the engagement area in 15 minutes.

Located in the heart of what was formerly Silicon Valley, Ares is a company built on the ruins of Pre-Rifts complexes formerly belonging to FMC, McDonnell-Douglas, Lockheed and others.

Ares has developed an APC based on the AA-12 Universal Combat Chassis. As with many other wheeled vehicles sold by Ares, it is designed for maximum commonality with other Ares Designs. It has been designed to accompany mechanized forces, and unli ke many other APCs it mounts significant offensive capability. For defense against missile or infantry attacks, a fully-equipped Ares MARK I railgun with a tripod mount suitable for ground/vehicle emplacement is provided. Optionally, instead of the MARK I I Rail Gun System, some purchasers choose to emplace a SRM 4-rack capable of 3 attacks per round in volleys or 1, 2 or 4. There are mounting provisions for up to 8 such Missles within the vehicle, with another 4 already in the autoloader.

Note on the AA-12 Universal Combat Chassis: The commander sits at the front of the hull on the right with the driver on his left. The commander has a single piece hatch cover that opens to the front. The driver also has a similar hatch cover that opens at a 45 degree angle towards the center of the vehicle. Both have a window to their front which is covered in combat by an armor hatch hover hinged at the top. Each also has 3 forward and 1 side-facing periscopes, with a single firing port under the commander's last periscope only. Over the second axle is the turret.

The troop compartment is to the rear of the turret with 3 firing ports and one vision block in each side of the hull. Over the top of the troop compartment are 2 square roof hatches each with a circular firing port, opening to the front and rear r espectively. Between the 2nd and 3rd axles is a small door that opens to the front. The 12 infantryman [or 6 in power armor] sit on a bench seat down the center, enabling them to use the firing ports. Steering is power assisted on the front 2 axles. Inte rnal stowage is provided. [Based on the BTR-70(8*8)]
