Edward Matthews, Sr., born abt. 1761 (do not believe that Edward was
born in America, but have not been able to locate yet where), died September
8, 1829 and buried in Gunpowder Baptist Cemetary in Middletown, Baltimore
County, Maryland. Edward Matthews lived all his life very close to (who
I believe was his brother) William Matthews in the Eklo, Rayville areas
of Baltimore County. I have traced all the other Mat(t)hews family lines
in Maryland & Penna. but have not found any information that would
lead me to believe that these two brothers were born in America. My father
had always said that we were of Scot/Irish descent. Some records seem to
indicate that they might be from Edinburg, Scotland. The Mathew lines branched
out from Wales around the mid 1500's into Ireland, Scotland and England.
Married January 1, 1782 at Saint Paul's Parish, Baltimore, Maryland to
Sarah Tracey, born abt. 1762, daughter of John Tracey. Sarah (Tracey)
Matthews died April 16, 1837 and was also buried at Gunpowder Baptist
Cemetary.
