Bachelor of Arts, Print Journalism, from The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Telecommunication, Arizona State University (summa cum laude).
Bachelor of Arts, English, from The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, ASU (summa cum laude).
Associate in General Studies Degree, Mesa Community College (with high distinction).

Spring 2001:
Earned 12 graduate credits from ASU toward a Masters in Communication (4.0 GPA) while completing internships with The Arizona Democratic Party at the State Democratic Party Headquarters, Phoenix, and with Arizona Governor Jane Dee Hull, for whom I researched and wrote party-neutral issue letters at the Governor's Tower, State Capitol Complex, Phoenix.

1998 through December 2000:
Earned concurrent Bachelor of Arts degrees, summa cum laude, in both English and Journalism from Arizona State University (3.90 GPA), December 2000.

Winter 1999:
Editing internship with the Daily News-Sun newspaper in Sun City, Arizona. Edited daily news copy from the Associated Press, national and local wire services and staff reporters. Edited monthly Sun City calendar of events and an annually published resource guide. Published some articles and original photography in both the Mesa Tribune and the Daily News-Sun.

1997 to 1999:
Student at Mesa Community College (3.95 GPA). MCC Writing Center aide for two years. Administered tests and edited English papers. Tutored: English; computer use; word processing software; Internet research; Microsoft Office and Works Suites and other software for PC and Macintosh computers; and basic use of hardware and printers. Solved minor software/hardware problems and secured the writing laboratory after hours.

1987 to 1997:
During 10 years at Federal Express Corporation, I worked as a Courier, a Customer Service Representative and a Management Trainee in Houston, Texas, and then in Scottsdale, Arizona. CDL license with Hazardous Materials endorsement, which I still keep current.

1986 to 1987:
Commercial Driver for Browning Ferris Industries, San Jose, California. CDL license.

1985 to 1986:
Graduated from Central Coast Counties Police Academy at Gavilan College in Gilroy, California (3.25 GPA). State Certified Peace Officer, worked in Law Enforcement Reserves and as a Licensed Private Armed Guard.

1982 to 1985:
U.S. Army Military Intelligence and Military Police Officer with Top Secret Security Clearance, stationed at Fort Ord, California, and in Frankfurt, West Germany.

1979 to 1981:
Attended Pima Community College (3.25 GPA), Tucson, Arizona. Worked part time during school, full time during the summers.

High School:
Marion A. Peterson High School, Sunnyvale, CA. Graduated a semester early, December 1978. Worked part time.

Skills:  Superior writing and editing. Strong organization and written/oral communication skill set, type 45-50 wpm. Use PC or Mac systems/software. Internet/email use. HTML coding. Intermediate Spanish, also some German and Latin.

Recognition:  Phi Beta Kappa Liberal Arts Honor Society, and the Golden Key National Honor Society, lifetime memberships. Phoenix Press Club Scholarship recipient, twice, fall 1999 and fall 2000. ASU scholarship-based grants, 1999 and 2000 school years. ASU Deans' Lists, consistently, in both the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Telecommunication in the College of Public Programs. Recognition from ASU for volunteer work with physically challenged students.

Organizations:  Phi Beta Kappa Society; Golden Key National Honor Society; Arizona Capitol Museum Guild Member; American Legionnaire, for whom I managed American Legion bars/food concessions/bingo halls in Texas; AMA (motorcycle); MENSA member (1976-79).

Volunteer Work:  1999 note-taker for hearing impaired ASU students; 2000 transporter/companion for quadraplegic ASU student; 1998-2001 English Tutor/Editor for ASU students; 1986-89 Literacy Advance, Texas; Special Olympics in Arizona and Germany; 1990-91 Maricopa County Animal Shelter; 2001 Peterson High School Mega-Reunion. American Red Cross volunteer Rodeo-Chedeski Fires 2002. Continuing volunteer work with the American Red Cross through 2003 and have completed ARC courses in: Disaster Services; Mass Care; Damage Assessment.

Hobbies:  Reading, writing, learning, HTML software and design, cultural events, travel, movies, photography, yoga, camping and canines.
