People study martial arts for many reasons. some seek grace and balance; others a means of self defense.

The three martial art forms taught at the new Center for Martial Arts at 109 Commerce Street, Burlington, are intended to provide a wide range of options to students who want to fulfill their personal training goals.

Aikido, Tae Kwan Do and American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu all teach poise and increase self-confidence, but each also has its own specific strength.

Tae Kwan Do is the most cardiovascular of the arts being taught. The Tae Kwon Do classes also offer instruction in Olympic style sparring and forms.

Aikido class values timing and body placement above all else, which provides the student with exceptional grace, poise and balance.

American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu is a system of martial arts that is dedicated to teaching a student to defend themselves by ending confrontation as quickly as possible. Students are trained to throw lethal techniques at vital areas. Classes are only open to adults over the age of 16.

According to the school's brochure, "Self confidence comes from within and with achieving your goal from martial arts. All of hte arts taught ar the Burlington Center will provide a means of achieving your goals.
All classes will be taught by certified instructors. Lead instructor Chet Chesher is well known in Burlington and has been teachin and lecturing on American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu in the Burlington area for several years.

Chesher is a fifth-degree black belt in American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu, third degree in Kajukenbo and instructors level in Northern Shaolin Tai Praying Mantis. He brings 19 years of experience and more than 15 years of teaching to the school. He was inducted into the World Martial Arts hall of fame as Instructor of the Year in 1996.
Dana Glasspool is a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He holds the title of forms and fighting champion of the state of Wisconsin and brings 12 years of experience and more than five years of teaching to the school.

Chris Roy is a first-degree balck belt in the art of Aikido and brings more than 12 years of study and five years of teaching experience to the school.

Classes are currently offered Sunday through Friday. The membership charge is $50 per month. For more information, call 767-9561.
