Ode to the Blessing Way 20 K

Twas cold that blustery morning’, standin’ by the Dell.

Some parts of us was freezin’, as we started this here tale.

At eight oh three we began to run on that wood chip twenty K

And hoped that all the others would soon be on their way.

We galloped uphill eastward and chatted between breaths.

We lied about our runnin’ feats and said we were the best.

We went running through the oak brush and dancin’ on the trail,

Sassin’ all the sagebrush as our chests began to swell.

We pranced up on the hills and trotted like a horse.

We thought we were wild mustangs, the wildest, of course.

Then we were tough cowboys and a ridin’ on the range.

We were manic Striders, only mildly deranged.

Avalanche showed no mercy and Stampede hung like glue

As Hi Oh scrambled back of them, his lips a turnin’ blue.

Mustang Michaels pranced, in very close pursuit

But left with Spurs and Boothill, who’d had enough, aw shoot!

Avalanche, Stampede, and Hi Oh, out the course did go

Ready for the tumbleweeds and the sun to show.

Ranger Alsop partied up but dancin’ off our road,

Departed us with Wrangler Wong and their south abode.

Hell bent for leather and gaspin’ for some air,

Hi Oh held the pace Stampede was showin’ there.

Down the last two miles with lightning on their feet,

Avalanche, Stampede, and Hi Oh, thought the run a treat.

Avalanche stretched it out the last quarter mile.

Stampede followed right behind with a gutsy smile.

Hi Oh staggered farther back in this grand old yarn,

Feeling like a horse come home to a peaceful barn.

Twas a great old roundup,  the Striders had their way

At the Dimple Dell run on that autumn day.
