At 7 a.m. when we met at Box Elder Picnic Ground, it had rained
all night and it came down even harder as we car pooled up to Brighton.
There was snow at the 10,000 foot level, a not uncommon occurrence. But
as luck would have it, the skies cleared and the sun came out to brighten
the runners outlooks. They had a blast and the colors on the Desolation
Trail were fabulous. Another hot summer left the red maple leaf colors
in Millcreek muted but the variety of all other colors were exciting.
The moisture brings out the richness of all the colors and it sparkles
in the sunlight.

Three runners found a new way to get lost at this years fall trail
delight. Eve Davies wandered out on the Wildcat Ridge route to Neffs
Canyon just before dropping to the Porter Fork trail and came down the
Neffs Canyon trail to meet Desolation Trail and down to the finish.
Chris Campbell took this misadventure one step further by going all the
way out Neffs Canyon to the Olympus Cove trail head. But it turned
out just fine for Chris. He met a couple of ladies and maneuvered
a date with one of them after catching a ride with them to Box Elder Picnic
Grounds. Way to go Chris! Still another runner, Andrew Wittwer
took the same end route as Chris and was picked up by his wife Wendy and
kids on the road back up Millcreek Canyon.

Deb Moss got lost again and bailed out at Porter Fork. Hey,
you get to win your own division if you are the only one do that.
Way to go Deb!

Jason Moir asked Stan for Marci Larrabee's hand in marraige when
they got to Desolation Lake. It was an old fashioned heart warmer.

John Moellmer tried to butt down a tree on the course this year
and was instructed by son Greg to be more careful.
Soon after, Greg tried to impale his shoulder on a branch sticking
out. The old man's disgrace soon turned to smug gloating in
a microsecond. Way to let your dad off the hook, Greg!
ps - Was the tree okay after your Dad's vicious assault on unsuspecting
forrest dwelling flora?
"I danced upon the mountain and released my cares
to the
wind. The golden aspens gently nudged my spirit to the
heavens. Come dance with me oh ye heavy laden."
