     The fourth running of the Millcreek Canyon 50K turned out to be a great success. With 32 starting and 15 finishers in the 50K, numbers were up from previous years. Thanks to everyone for bringing donations this year. Thanks to Jim Skagges for bringing a donation of Gu from the Layton Striders; and Rich McDonald. I've never seen so much Gatorade on my front porch. Rich Baxter (co-director) hauled 10 gallons of water to Dog Lake, and then tied glow sticks on the last 10 miles of the course! Erik Storheim who was going to clear part of the course decided to run the race and did so in a first place time of 6 hours and 19 minutes, and still stripped some of the course in the following days. Eric was caught somewhere around Grandeur Peak by Jim Huffman who must be getting his legs back from Western States. He also gets the first place prize in the same time. This was our first tie in 4 years. Jared Campbell who ran strong all night, finished in a time of 6:43 and is a three time finisher. Jodi Martin & Shane Martin, sister and brother, were trying to become the only 4 time finishers. In the end, Jodi prevailed and Shane got sick going up Grandeur, and opted for the Marathon finish. Eve Davies did the entire 50K while tying glow sticks on the first 22 miles with friend Marty.  Word from everyone was the course was well marked. Thanks Jill, Colleen, Eve, Marty, Evan, Erik, and David for marking or clearing the course.
      This year's run was pleasant considering the 100 degree days of late, there were no mountain bikes, and a black bear was seen by one group of people around Dog Lake, also Rattlesnake and skunk, but surprisingly no Moose. And Lyle Nay who ran the Desolation loop, was a star as he was seen on TV the following night.   Thanks again for the donations. Hope to see everybody back next year for the reverse direction.
