Inaugural Winter Wasatch Frozen Fifty (K)
It has been too
hard to try to break away to the
south, so a couple of weeks ago I went up to the Alpine Loop to look
for
avalanches and get in a few miles. I found the groomed
snowmobile track very runnable, so l though it might be easy to get
some
miles in under the right weather conditions. Last Thursday I
parked
at the fork of American Fork Canyon, ran up to Loopcrest, down to
Cascade
Springs, up to Pole Line Pass, then down AF Canyon past Tibble Fork
Reservoir and back to the car. Some snowmobilers were surprised,
and I saw some really nice avalanches across the course on the east
face
of Mill Canyon Peak. 31.2 miles (50K), took just over eight hours
(running on snow, even hard snow, can be very tiring). It was a
very nice day, seeing the WF100 course in a whole new light. Lots
of coyote poo and pee, but no critters. Maybe we should make it
an
annual event, like a fat ass fifty or something?
Be
careful out there.
