Middle School Youth

Weekly Gatherings The purpose of weekly gatherings is to provide a safe place for relationships to grow and faith to deepen. Youth need a regular opportunity to connect with each other and with adult volunteers/mentors, and Sunday School and Confirmation are meant to fill that need. This is the place where lives are enriched and transformed!

  • Sunday School — 9:30-10:30 Sunday mornings. We'll be meeting in the Luther House this year, starting off with the Highers for a time of music and prayer, then we'll break off into our own lounge space for class. It's gonna be a great class as we look at real issues that Middlers face in life and in church, starting with 7 Things Christians Do. Bring your friends and be ready for some great learning, sharing, and laughing together!
  • Confirmation Tuesday Nights, Central Lutheran Church is the place to be and to bring your friends. This is not the same ol' Confirmation (i.e. boring) your parents went through; this Confirmation is fun, fast paced, interactive and well worth your time. Music, games, discussion, small groups, multi-media… we're cramming the evening full of interesting stuff! We'll be using the humorous “Lutheran Handbook” (costs $12) and the “Here Ve Shtand” (think: Here We Stand with a German accent) curriculum to guide our learning. Make Tuesday nights at Central a priority—you'll be glad you did!

Schedule for the Evening:
5:30—Alleluia Choir Practice (grades 4-8)
6:15—Family Dinner
6:45—Confirmation Check-In
6:45—Music/Game/Skit
7:00—Large Group Learning
7:40—Small Group Discussion
7:55—Closing Circle with Music & Prayer
8:00ish —Check-Out/Hang-Out time and go home

Frequent Attender Rewards Program: We've got a great party and prizes arranged for Confirmation students 1) whose attendance is better than 80%, 2) for 6th graders who memorize the 10 Commandments, Lord's Prayer and Apostles' Creed, 3) for 7th graders who memorize the above plus the Small Catechism sections for the 10 Commandments and Apostles' Creed, and 4) for 8th graders who memorize all of the above plus the Small Catechism section on the Lord's Prayer.

Upcoming Activities

Ski-Board Retreat at Willamette Pass, February 2009 We’ll start with a fun overnighter here at the church on Sunday night, then head out for a day of skiing on Monday, Presidents Day. For those who don’t ski or board, you’re welcome to come too, there will be lots to do for fun that doesn’t involve strapping planks to your feet, like tubing and just hanging out in the lodge!

Spring Overnighter 2009 — a Lock-in here at the church, full of all night games, movies, goofiness and good food. Bring your friends, we’ll have a blast! Ends after Sunday worship.

Confirmation Camp at Lutherwood— June 2009. We encourage all confirmation students to go out to this camp at least once during the 3 year confirmation program. But it’s such a great time, we know you’ll want to go every year!

High School Youth

Weekly Gatherings The purpose of weekly gatherings is to provide a safe place for relationships to grow and faith to deepen. Youth need a regular opportunity to connect with each other and with adult volunteers/mentors, and Forum and WNL are meant to fill that need. This is the place where lives are enriched and transformed!

  • Sunday “Coffee, Jesus, and Me”—this is our gathering on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour (9:30-10:30). We will start with the Middle Schoolers in the Luther House then kick them downstairs while we enjoy a time of sharing, praying, and Christian conversation. This is not a class with lectures, but more of a discussion group where we can learn from and support each other. Drinks from Pray-a-Latte are welcome! Other Sunday morning options include attending the adult PACE presentations or helping teach Sunday School for the younger kids.

  • WednesdayNightLive (WNL) — Each Wednesday we gather to fellowship, learn and grow in faith. There is time for checking in with each other, praying for each other, getting into God's Word as we explore various topics youth are facing, and honest sharing. This is the place to invite friends, as we cover topics that YOU have chosen, from a Biblical perspective. At our first WNL of the year, Wednesday, September 17th, we'll vote on what topics to cover. We'll also have regular “Chat Nights” when Pastor Robyn puts away the Techno-Toys and we follow your lead for whatever you want to talk about. In an important way, WNL is the core of the Youth Program at Central, so make it a priority to be there regularly!
  Example Schedule of the evening:
6:00 – Simple Dinner and Hangout/Homework Time
7:00—Opening Worship and Singing
7:30— Activity/Game
7:45—Topical Discussion/Bible Study
