The Haunting - Dreamworks
99-11-23

Was this supposed to be scary? What happened to the two characters that went to the hospital? I don't understand this movie. Maybe there wasn't anything to get. Liam Neeson and whatever cast there was, was most forgetable. The visuals were fun.

Entrapment - FOX
99-11-23

Only Sean Connery held this movie together. What happened to Catherine Zeta-Jones? She was terrible. Not to mention the other "horror" flick she was in that was just released. This Y2K movie was bad. It's all about thievery. Lame.

Notting Hill - Universal
99-11-09

This cute falling in love movie was quite long and drawn out. What happened to movie things along? I noticed that Julia (Anna Scott) took on the role of a more famous type role than in Pretty Woman. Quite cliche for the role reversal.

This Real World drama was quite fun and amusing. A love story thrown into the cowboy act was quite heart-warming. This movie wasn't as bad as people said it was. Although, I did rent this one. For Jenna Elfman, she did an excellent job performing the arts she did, but stick with TV.

They play Henry and Nancy Clark, a married couple whose passion cooled long ago. Luggage is lost. A private marital moment becomes very public. A rude hotel manager (John Cleese) vexes them and an angry Rottweiler pursues them. These and many more antics fly by wild and fast. And talented comics Martin, Hawn and Cleese are just the folks to keep up with them.

Another Kevin Smith movie. This movie was well written and most people could relate, I am sure. Tired of working in the same corporate crap we all wallow in was enough. So getting fired was harder than he thought. Instead he got promoted.

200 Cigarettes - Paramount

This cute little eighties remembrance film was a total tragedy. I thought with it's fabulous cast it would have something more uplifting. Too bad some of the people looked like they were from the nineties. What happened here?

Shakespeare In Love - Miramax

This Oscar winning movie was up against Saving Private Ryan, why? I dont' know. But a good love drama, very heart warming as Gwyneth shines on the silver screen. Very humerous and very dramatic. Costumes are excellent. Elizabeth was better.

Celebrity - Miramax

Why did I rent this one? I should have known a Woody Allen movie would irritate me the same way they all do. This movie was perfectly titled. Very witty script as usual. It was amazing how Kenneth Branaugh portayed his character. Just like Woody.

The Deep End Of The Ocean - Columbia
99-08-10

Michelle Pfeiffer delivers a most powerful performance as a wife and mother faced with rebuilding her life, and her family, after they’ve been shockingly torn apart. Based on Jacquelyn Mitchard’s best-selling novel, The Deep End Of The Ocean is both riveting and moving. When their son suddenly disappears, the pain of a lost child ravages the Cappandora family for nearly a decade. But it is upon his sudden return that the entire family must come to grips with a painful reunion of their own. Treat Williams is masterful as Michelle Pfeiffer’s hard-working and forgiving husband. Whoopi Goldberg shines in her dramatic role as Detective Candy Bliss.

Cruel Intentions - Columbia
99-08-03

A remake of Dangerous Liasons, this teen cover was excellently filmed. Sarah Michelle Gellar was a fantastic image of Glen Close. Manipulation was beyond expectation. Step brother (Ryan Phillippe) was Gellar's play toy. Only if we could all have a play toy like that.

Telling You - Miramax
99-07-XX

This crazy little teen flick with Peter Facinelli and Jennifer Love Hewitt sparks another pseudo fling as in Can't Hardly Wait. After college, stuck working in a pizza joint demonstrates what is reality to the naive teens. A fun teen flick, but could have done without all the big hair, big tit girls.

Payback - Paramount
99-07-27

Violent and soothing to hear those gun shots that we dont' hear enough of on the streets, any streets. Any movie with an Asian Dominatrix is awesome. All Mel's character wants is his money. Something like US$70,000.00. So he's killing crime bosses to get it back.
A.

Baby Geniuses - Columbia
99-07-27

Ahhh, horrible. Thank Goodness it was a rental. Is there a way to get my money back? Babies on parade. They say babies have their own language. Who cares?

Virus - Universal
99-07-20

Aliens meets Runaway. Yes, that Tom Selleck cop movie. Not too bad and not too good. I think I heard the Queen of Scream (Jamie Lee Curtis), scream a few times. She was supposed to be like Sigourney you know. The others', not important.
D-.

She's All That - Miramax
99-07-13

The stories of teen angst. Why would that be? I think we all go through this throughout our lives. Well, this fantasy is a great uplifter, at least for the 98 minutes that it's on. A tale of a bet to turn a toadette into a queen. Is that possible? Well, at least for Laney (Rachael Leigh Cook) it is, with the help of Zachery's (Freddie Prinze Jr) sister (Anna Paquin).
B+.

Wing Commander - FOX/Digital Anvil
99-07-06

Yeah baby! Let's just say BSB got their ideas from this movie for Larger than Life so this flick ain't all that bad. As Matthew Lillard and Freddie Prinz Jr. star in another movie together, they team up this time to fight interglactic baddies. The visuals are very pleasing, but don't expect a story.
C.

Holy Man - Touchstone
99-05-18

There's something about Eddie Murphy and spiritualism that just don't mix. He had that same feel that he did in Coming To America. Performances in this drab flick would be about right for "straight to video" release. Watching this movie left a bad taste in my mouth. I guess watching a movie about a home shopping network just isn't my cup of tea. I think I'll leave it to our "prairie cousins" to keep those networks in business.

Elizabeth - Polygram
99-05-25

A very well written screenplay. Performances were stupendous. This movie definitely deserved more from the Academy. The year is 1509. King Henry VIII begins a forty year reign over England. For more than ten centuries, England had been aligned with the Catholic Church. But Henry VIII would change this, beginning a state of civil unrest which would challenge the reign of several monarchs to follow. Desperate for a male heir to succeed his throne, Henry sought divorce from his first wife of twenty years, Catherine of Aragon, who had given birth to only a girl, Mary Tudor. When the Pope refused Henry’s plea for annulment, he spitefully withdrew England from the Catholic Church and established the Church of England. Henry’s quest for a male heir continued with Anne Boleyn, who was pregnant prior to their marriage. But, she only gave Henry a second daughter, Elizabeth Tudor. In fact, it wasn’t until 1537 that Henry’s third wife, Jane Seymour, finally gave him that longed-for son, Edward VI. Ten years later, Edward VI did indeed succeed his father on the throne. And while he upheld his father’s mandate for separation from the Catholic Church, he died at a very young age. Next in line was Henry’s first born, Mary Tudor. But, Mary was a devout Catholic and returned England to Catholicism through the bloody persecution of Protestants, further dividing England. So resolved to honor the Catholic Church was Queen Mary that she imprisoned her half-sister Elizabeth in the Tower of London for suspicion of Protestant complicency. This is where Elizabeth’s story begins.

Apt Pupil - Tristar

A very well written screenplay. Brad Renfro's performance was astounding. Evil exists in all of us and Ian McKellan and Brad show us the way. Todd Bowden (Brad Renfro) a 16 year old boy student who recognizes a hunted Nazi living in his own town. Curious, Todd persuades Kurt Dussander (Ian McKellan) to tell his story. Meet Joe Black - Universal
99-04-06

Death (Brad Pitt) marches in to take William Parrish (Sir Anthony Hopkins) to his destiny, but Death has decided to take a vacation. Death certainly "lit up the screen." Martin Brest director and producer of this movie of love, passion and death. A fantastic score and wonderful acting. If this screener passes to video in the same fashion, WIDESCREEN, then you won't miss a thing. Beautiful cinematography and direction made my eyes water. A wonderful story to go with the cast, there were no flaws. Sorry, if it's not in the dollar theatres then you'll have to wait till April.

Mighty Joe Young - Disney

Wonderful performances by Renee, Meryl and William. All I have to say is bring a box of Kleenex.
A-.

The Waterboy - Touchstone
99-03-16

Adam Sandler (Bobby Boucher) does it again with his pseudo intellectual movie. I don't understand how it became a blockbuster, well maybe I do. For this feel good movie the message that I got from this movie was that you can do anything as long as you ain't got Devil. Kathy Bates (Mama, Helen) held my interest, but the rest of the cast I could have done without.
C.

Dead Man On Campus - Paramount/MTV
99-03-09

Two college students out to find a roommate that is suicidal. Humorous to a degree, but yet annoying at the same time. Kudos to the writers of this comedy. "Could you please put Real Genius back in the VCR. PLEASE!"
C.

Soldier - Warner Brothers
99-03-02

An obsolete soldier is dumped on a planet of trash. The inhabitants take the poor sole in for his injuries. Kurt Russell probably has a page worth of lines that aren't even required. He could have said nothing through the whole movie and it would have been the same. A very unfortunate role for him. The movie was visually awesome, the visual effects were very pleasing, but the rest of the movie wasn't worth writing.
D.

Urban Legend - Columbia/Tristar
99-02-23

The scene is set in a New England University. To match the movies of Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Disturbing Behavior has been all rolled into one. It's an "Urban Legend serial killer" satire. Oooooooo, no don't hurt me. It was quite good overall. I was very amazed at all the twists, but I guess I should have known. There were a lot of cliche remarks of each actors previous resumes. A good example would be Rebecca Gayheart's Noxema commercial and Joshua Jackson's Dawson Creek's theme song.
B.

Pecker - Fine Line/New Line
99-02-16

From the director of Divine movies and Hairspray, brings a strange story of an amateur photographer (Edward Furlong) that becomes a New York Art sensation overnight. Christina Ricci plays Pecker's girlfriend. The performance in this movie was great. A must see for the art fanatics.

Sally and Jillian, two sisters that are bonded for life. Growing up different from the other kids was not an easy task. The movie takes too many turns, but overall a good story.

Rounders - Miramax
99-02-09

In this hokey poker flick, Matt Damon spins off another fast talking, wise-ass role. What other roles can he do? This movie takes you for different kinds of twists and turns. Mike McDermott (Matt Damon) plays a college student with a knack for playing poker. A friend (Edward Norton) is thrown into the picture that "helps" Mike back into the world of underground poker arcades. Although long and dragged out it was quite worth the video rental.

A boxer (Jean-Claude Van Damme) refuses to drop during a fight; so he ends up joining the French Foreign Legion to hide from his would-be assassins.
D.

Antz - Dreamworks/PDI
99-02-02

With an all star cast leading the way, I couldn't help but notice all the actors' voices. Feeling "insignificant," Z is looking for originality and individuality. The search brings him to many ups and downs. From being a loser to kidnapping the princess to becoming a hero. It would not be fun performing the tasks that "antz" do.
B+.

Vampires - Columbia/Tristar
99-02-02

Biff Bamm Boom! Toasty! How is this now? Vampires in search of a sacred Cross that can lead them into daylight. James Woods stars in the pseudo intellectual zombie flick. Chasing after the Master Vamp since he was a child, the vampire killers have finally met their match. The wit and humour are stale and need to be revamped. Perhaps, the Master Vampire needed some "Lost Boys" to teach them something about REAL vampires.
