If I hear one more pathetic plea to excuse the Rev. Jesse Jackson for his mistake, I might just consider the several theological rites I've been practicing in my basement.
Let's get one thing straight: To forgive IS the Christian way, undoubtedly-unfortunately the ones who incessantly claim to be Christian, end up usually reacting with the most spite. But when it's someone THIS religiously popular, the misconduct seems to be a little less corrupt doesn't it?
Let's not get confused with the apparent fine line that forgiveness presents. Forgiveness is one thing, healing is another, altogether. This is a man who piously counseled the president on HIS infidelity. I mean, at the time, didn't he feel a little, oh I don't know, WEIRD??
A man whose SOLE lifework has been morality & ethics, and the very fact that he walked amongst political ne'er-do-wells somehow made the Jeffersonian world a little safer. But HE wasn't, and IT isn't. The betrayal he's left the country-not to mention his wife & 5 kids-has left the political basin of hopefuls looking once again like canonist chumps.
Last night Larry King discussed the Jesse Jackson situation with the Rev. Al Sharpton. Yeh, THERE's an impartial pundit. Maybe the next time the Klu Klux Klan comes under scrutiny, he'll ask Nathan B. Forrest to come on.
Do I think we should forgive the Rev. Jackson? No, we NEED to forgive the Rev. Jesse Jackson. That's the only initiative that's gonna issue the healing process. But the only healing words I need, compose an acknowledgement from the millions of religious fanatics that you don't need to walk with a cross, to have moral impact or an ANGRY MINUTE.
