The Angry Minute 5-4-01
On Wednesday, the Dalai Lama will address members of the House and Senate to reflect his appreciation to Minnesota, the second largest Tibetan community in the United States, after New York City.
To show its own appreciation, the state of Minnesota has rep. Arlon Lindner, who thinks the Dalai Lama's philosophies are more akin to Satan, than say himself, and refuses to be present when the Dalai Lama speaks.
In his email, he claims Buddhism beliefs are incompatible with the Christian principles-Yeh, I guess there's just no room for tolerance & love in THIS man's religion.
But, that's the great thing about bigots-they can't ever seem to hide their ignorance.
Case in point, in an email to his colleagues, Lindner writes:
A Buddhist would say, "Why the big fuss about abortion and euthanasia? After all, we are all reincarnated over and over again in many lives, so why the big deal about ending one?"
I'm sure it's real difficult to comprehend more important things than your own selfish mortality, but there ARE people who believe in a WAY of life
rather than political possessions you can get your slippery little sausages on.
To try and explain a philosophy larger than his ignorance, is laughable.
And the only credit I can think of giving Lindner is that he didn't quote the bible, which is generally what people do when they can't interpret it.
Apparently he doesn't have a dictionary either, and why would the village idiot have one…calling Buddhism a cult.
Well, it is…and by Webster's definition so is Catholicism, Judaeism, and any other organized religion.
But Lindner shows his biggest embarrassment writing:
There is a public religious ethic that prevails in this country
Hmm. That's funny I don't remember anyone accusing the Dalai Lama of making anti-semitic statements…one feather Rep. Lindner can proudly display in his cap.
