Angry Minute 6-1-01

With a nurses strike apparently averted, it's clear to me this thing always was, and always will be about money… I mean, when I want more money, I usually take 17-year breaks between strikes, medicate enough body's to fill a city block, and work 16 hour shifts for less than my car mechanic…
but that's just me.
There's a saying:
"everyone is entitled to their own opinion, they're just NOT entitled to their own facts"

The fact is, according to a Senate Hearing On Issues That Will Affect The Aging Population and Nursing Shortage,
Government predictions state that the nation will need 1.7 million nurses by the year 2020.
But just more than 600,000 will be available

The fact is, By the year 2010 more than 40 percent of registered nurses are
projected to be older than 50 years of age. At the same time, the number of
nurses under the age of 30 has declined by 41 percent

The fact is, The average nurse to patient ratio is 1 nurse to every 10 beds;
go to any one of the 238 nursing homes in Arkansas,
and that ratio shoots to 1 nurse for every 105 beds.

The fact is, 41% of U.S. nurses are unhappy with their jobs, and that 1 of every 4 say they plan to leave the profession.
Gee, I wonder why? 105 beds not enough?

The fact is, right now in America, there are 2.7 million registered nurses in America-licensed and ready to work,
but more than 18% or 500,000 seem to think there's a better way to make a living.
Why do YOU think 500,000 registered nurses seek a different job?
Yeh, it must be the money.
Call me an alarmist, but when it comes down to it, anybody dangling surgical steel above my uvula can have my kids college fund.
Why do we have such a problem paying teachers & nurses a wage that even approaches trashmen & car mechanics?
Why? Because men run the country and if men had babies, only babies would be men…and only geniuses like me will spew an Angry Minute...
