Has backed such notable musicians as Frank Gambale, Bruce Forman, Ernie Watts and others in numerous live performances and concerts. Propelled the SFCC Jazz Orchestra to a First Place Gold Star Award at the Aloha Big Band Competition in 1993, Waikiki, Hawaii.
Current Activities and Plans: Actively seeking a touring band in need of a bassist for short term engagements. Recording sessions and other work are desired as well.
Bio Sheet
Dave Turner has been playing bass for 16 years and is a specialist of the funk/rock/pop groove. Before picking up the electric bass in 1986, he played drums and percussion for 6 years. After switching to electric bass, Dave met with immediate success due to his unique approach to the instrument and sense of time and style.
While busy doing jingles and radio/tv spots for local studios such as The Production Group and VU Music, Dave sequences backing tracks for Top 40 acts and does session work for other local artists. He is actively seeking a touring act which can utilize his talent. Dave's latest work can be heard on the MP3 files listed above, and on the titles "Jilla Roberts", "Ken Burtch" and "The Generation Ibanez Project" offered by Guitar9 records.
Over the course of Dave's career he has backed such artists as fusion guitarist Frank Gambale, be-bop guitarist Bruce Forman, tenor Saxophonist Ernie Watts and others, and opened for artists such as Tower of Power, Los Lobos, Candle Box, Inner Circle, and Black Happy.
During Dave's formal education he received a Special Citation for Outstanding Musicianship from the International Association of Jazz Educators at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Jazz Festival, First Place Gold Star Award at the Aloha Big Band Competition 1993 in Waikiki, Hawaii, and is an Alumni of the Dick Grove School of Music and Frank DiMeiro Jazz Camp.
Dave is currently busy in the studio doing session work, and is available immediately for touring, promotional shows and sessions.
