Meditation on the Passion and Death of Christ

(sung to the tune of 'El Shaddai')

REFRAIN

I looked for one that would comfort Me, and I found none.

Crucified, crucified, you hung your head and then you died
And though your mama stood and cried, she let you go, to save our lives
Crucified, crucified, they heard you cry 'Tetelestai'
Then you hung your head and died, crucified

VERSE

Through your life you made it clear, that the Son of God was here,
And though the people wouldn't see, you gave your life so they'd be free
And though you had the saving plan, they just saw you as a man
And took your life into their hands, "kill this man!"

You stayed awake and prayed alone, your friends all slumped upon a stone
You cried and cried "let this cup pass, Father let it be your will" at last
The events still to come, would make a person turn and run
But not our Mighty Father's Son, the One true One

Now the time had come to be, before they'd hang you on a tree
A crown of thorns and purple cape, for the king they'd come to hate
Oh if only they had known, for all their sins you would atone
So all you people could go home, to the Father's throne

The time had come to make your trip, a heavy cross upon your hip
The sweat and blood was plain to see, as you struggled up Calvary
The mocking words, the cruel demands, made you fall upon your hands
Two more times you tried to stand, to fulfill the plan

Amid the jeering and the sneers, amid your mother's pool of tears
While you hung for all to see, for all the sinners, even me
Through the misery and grief, you showed your mercy to the thief
As people stood in disbelief . . . . . . . . . . .

Crucified, crucified, you hung your head and then you died
You gave your life to save our lives
Crucified.
