Many people are discovering
the joys, and the benefits, of walking. You learn about your neighborhood,
perhaps about other neighborhoods, too. You meet interesting people.
If you walk and talk with others, you find out the latest gossip.
It's healthy. It's inexpensive. It's fun.
We would like to promote
more walking by furnishing accurate maps complete with trails, stairs and
"demand paths" (those routes that just appear because people use them).
We also provide some notes about points of interest, history, interesting
architecture and gardens, and anything else we discover people would like
to know about.
We (Knowledge for Use) are currently assembling
several suggestions for loop walks, including many that start at community
centers in Southwest Portland. These are maps and descriptions,
suitable for downloading from the Web and printing on your computer's printer.
A short description of this
mapping project is located HERE.
See the routes about the Mittleman Jewish Community Center, 6651 SW Capitol Highway (Vermont St) at SW 25th Ave.
Clicking on the map
gives you a map file for printing: they are about 100k, so only the ones
you want to print will take up download time. Clicking on a "description
link" gives you a page of descrption you can download and print from
your browser.
We will collect other links
to Web sites with a similar purpose. For example:

our favorite walking and running routes on our Web sites and link them
to each other. Join us in collecting and posting interesting routes.
Let's assemble street
maps of the Portland area that are accurate and complete: if it's on the
map, it's on the ground; if it's on the ground, it's on the map; if it's
not on the ground,
