On-line Store This is a rare Navajo Indian sandpainting called "The Creation of the Four Hogans", made during the ceremony called "Blessed Way" chant.
The hogans are the white dawn hogan of the east, gray mist hogan of the south, twilight (yellow) hogan of the west, and black darkness of the north.
The doorways (frames) are of the rainbows.
The doorway coverings are the black darkness.
Inside are the fires, built by the Fire God.
Above is the universe with the gray face of the sun, white face of the moon, dots of constellations, and at the center (zig-zag) is the Milky Way.
The bands below the hogans are white dawn, gray mist, yellow twilight and black darkness.

Creation of the Hogans
This is reputed to be a very rare painting, executed only during a brief "Blessing Way" chant. Such rites are always held to bless newly constructed hogans, but according to the artist, this painting is made when a series of unexplainable obstacles slow construction on the building of a new hogan. The hogans shown are the white dawn hogan of the east, the gray mist hogan of the south, yellow twilight hogan of the west, and black darkness hogan of the north. The doorways (frames) are of the rainbows, and the doorway coverings are of the black darkness. Inside are fires built by Fire God. Creation of the Hogans
Blessing of the Four Hogans used to be done when a new Hogan was built for a soldier returning from the battlefield. This blessed Way painting also pertains to Female or Male shooting way chant as this ceremony was first done for the "Hero Twins" (Flint Warriors), after they arrived back to earth from their fathers house, The Sun House.
