The Four Mountains
The Four Mountains
This is a Navajo Indian sandpainting of the "Four Mountains", made during the ceremony called "Male Shooting Way" chant.
The Mountains are at the Center. The east Mountain is Black. The gray Mountain is to the west. The yellow Mountain is of the south, and the pink (glitter) Mountain is of the North.
The four flint warriors stand on rainbow bars. They are (Black) the Monster Slayer, child of Water (Grey), He who is raised in the soil (Yellow), and grandson of the deities (Pink.)
They all wear armor suits and caps of the flint rocks. Their white forehead lines denote consciences. The yellow Chin lines denote corn pollen paths. All figures carry lightning arrows, medicine pouches, shields, and a flint war club sack.
A Rainbow, with feathers is their house. Four herb plants sprout to four directions.
This painting is all hand done, out of pulverized Natural colored sand stones, silicon, and mineral rocks.
