MORE FRIVOLOUS CHARGES

Boulder, CO––November 3, 2000––The SECONDS COUNT! committee was notified today by Boulder’s City Clerk of yet another complaint filed against the group by John Spitzer of Safety First. The new complaint exactly duplicates charges leveled by Spitzer earlier in the political campaign alleging perjury and financial misreporting of anonymous contributions. SECONDS COUNT! vigorously denied the original allegations, and the City Attorney and City Clerk totally exonerated SECONDS COUNT! of any wrongdoing after a thorough investigation.

The steady stream of negative, unfounded, and frivolous complaints from Spitzer and Safety First are a shameful manipulation of the electoral process and a waste of public resources. Spitzer tilts at imaginary windmills to distract voters from the real dangers of delayed emergency response caused by traffic devices. Safety First’s descent into mudslinging merely highlights their inability to refute one incontrovertible fact: the real, objectively quantifiable risk from delays caused by traffic mitigation far outweighs the rare incidence of speed-related fatalities and injuries on neighborhood streets. This truth is confirmed by our own Fire Department and independent researchers. It is one reason behind endorsements of the 2A initiative by Pridemark Paramedics, the Daily Camera, and the Boulder Weekly.

SECONDS COUNT! is a November 2000 ballot initiative by Boulder, Colorado citizens to prohibit traffic devices that delay emergency response. SECONDS COUNT! is online at http://www.secondscount.org.
