| ------------------ For Immediate Release SECONDS COUNT! LAUNCHES WEB SITE June 1, 2000--Boulder, Colorado--The SECONDS COUNT! committee today announced the debut of its web site at http://www.secondscount.org. The site is an educational tool to provide voters with information about the SECONDS COUNT! initiative, Question 2A on the November 7, 2000 municipal ballot in Boulder, Colorado. The site currently incorporates the ballot language, full text and explanations of the proposed ordinance, and primary reasons voters should support the measure, which will prohibit traffic devices that delay emergency response. The web site provides contact information, including e-mail links, for the SECONDS COUNT! committee and solicits community support for the educational effort. Links are also furnished to web sites of other organizations around the world with substantial research about the effects of traffic devices on emergency response, impacts on disabled citizens, and other related issues. Webmaster Eric Rinard said, "We began with preliminary material that every voter should know. As our educational campaign continues, we will be adding more resources concerning pollution, traffic diversion, and lost mobility for elderly and disabled populations. Of course, we will also be adding more data on the risks of delayed emergency response and the myths of neighborhood safety." SECONDS COUNT! is an initiative placed on the November 2000 ballot by citizens of Boulder, Colorado to prohibit devices on public streets that delay emergency vehicles, including speed bumps and small traffic circles. |
