The Grenville M. Dodge Camp #75 Dept. of Iowa Sons Union Veterans of the Civil War meets on the first Saturday of month at 40/8 American Legion Hall on 516 New York Ave. in Des Moines, Iowa. The Dodge Camp meets start at 6.00p.m.
How to Join the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
A Candidate may be a member and or a junior member, a male descendant, whether through lineal or collateral line and not less than 14yrs of age(8 to 14 years for juniors), (1) Is a blood relative of a Soldier, Sailor, Marine, member of the Revenue Cutter Service, who was mustered and served honorably in, was honorably discharged from or died in the Service of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Revenue Cutter Service of the United States of America or in such state regiments called to active service and was subject to orders of United States General's Officers, between April 12, 1861 and April 9, 1865; (2) has never been convicted of any or heinous crime and (3) has, or whose ancestor through whom membership is claimed has, never voluntarily borne arms against the government of the United States.
An Associate is not required to have above lineage. Men do not have the ancestry to qualify for hereditary membership, but who demonstrate a genuine interest in the Civil War and who can subscribe to the purpose and objects of the S. U. V. C. W. may become Associates.

Brief History
about General Grenville M. Dodge
General Grenville M. Dodge was born in Danvers,
Massachusetts on April 12, 1831 General Dodge attended school at the Danvers
public schools and then he attended Durham Academy, New Hampshire. Grenville
Dodge graduated from Norwich University, Vermont. He graduated with a degree
in Civil Engineering. General Dodge moved to Iowa in 1851. He settled in
Council Bluffs, Iowa. General Dodge became a member of the City Council
of Council Bluffs in 1860.
Grenville M. Dodge entered the Union Army
as Colonel of the Fourth Iowa Volunteer Infantry on July 6, 1861. Colonel
Dodge distinguished himself as leading a bridge of Fourth Iowa Volunteer
Infantry at the Battle of Pea Ridge Arkansas in March of 1862. Colonel
Dodge was wounded at the Battle of Pea Ridge. Later he
was promoted to Brigadier General of Volunteers.
General Dodge's skill in rapidly rebuilding the bridges and railroads
destroyed by confederate forces was of great value to General Grant and
General Sherman in the Western Campaign. General Grenville M. Dodge was
promoted to Major General of Volunteers on July 7, 1864.
General Dodge led a corps in the Sherman's
Atlanta Campaign until he was severally wounded at the siege of Atlanta.
After the Civil War, General Dodge led campaign against Native Americans
from 1865 to 1866. General Dodge resigned from the Army on May 30, 1866.
Grenville M. Dodge became the Chief Engineer
of the Union Pacific Railroad from 1866 to 1870. Grenville M. Dodge
was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress on March 4,
1867. He declined to be candidate for renomination in 1868. Grenville M.
Dodge was a delegate to Republican National Convention in 1868, 1872, 1876.
. Grenville M. Dodge was President of the Commission to inquire into the
Management of the War with Spain. General Grenville M. Dodge died in Council
Bluffs, Iowa on January 3, 1916. General Dodge is buried in Walnut Hill
Cemetery. The Cemetery is located in Council Bluffs , Iowa.
The Grenville M. Dodge Camp#75 Dept. of Iowa purschase a camp flag from U.S. Grant Camp#68 Dept. of Missouri, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in January of 2000. The members of the Dodge Camp donated money for the purschase of this Camp Flag.
