Heartbeat Ferret Rescue & Shelter
Specliazing
in Champagne Cinnamon's & Blue Eyed Whites![]()
Heart Beat Ferret Rescue was started in March of 1988 by Helen White as a ferret rescue. I served the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C, metro area. I relocated in June of 1992. I started by taking in unwanted ferrets and keeping them until I found them a home. We have an arrangement with Phoenix Animal Shelters to receive ferrets that are turned in that are unrelated bite cases so no ferrets are needlessly being put down in Phoenix at this time.
The shelter exists inside my home. I have gravitated to breeding ferrets in a small way and also have gotten into the more exotic colors such as the champagne cinnamon's and the blue-eyed whites. I also have other colors upon availability. Their is a season for ferrets usually starts in February through end of September sometimes October than the ferrets do dormant until the following spring. People seem to enjoy ferrets in groups of twos and threes. Social, single ferrets as well as pairs are placed in homes quickly, except in the summer when people are moving and vacationing. Older ferrets above 5 go to a ferret retirement home (to someone who has a soft spot for old ones).
Every adoptee is vaccinated for Canine Distemper, seen by a veterinarian if needed, nails trimmed and the ferret bathed before going to a new home. Most ferrets that come in are already altered and descented, but being a breeder I have babies for adoption that are unaltered/undescented. I dont advocate spaying or neutering these ferrets until they are sexually mature. My ferret prices range from $85 to $175 depending on the rarity of the color. Females should be spayed between ages of 4-6 months (mandatory) males 5-10 months (not as critical to neuter males but best for the males well-being by the time he is l year old. The new owner who adopts will receive a information packet and an adoption record, shot record and care instructions. When we have ferrets rescues for adoption the fee starts between $35 and $85 depending on their ages and health condition of the ferret. If there is anything we can do to help you with ferrets, please do not hesitate to contact me via my ICQ Pager or e-mail.
