I have climbed 19 peaks in the state of Colorado that are over 14,000 ft.
in elevation. Known commonly as "14'ers", these peaks are scattered
throughout the Rocky Mountains. Colorado has 54 of these beauties, and it
has been my goal to climb all of them.
As of the date of my brain tumor diagnosis (Nov. 1997), I had 19 of these 54 that I had not climbed. After an August 1997 MRI revealed that I had a lesion, I climbed three of the most difficult 14'ers - the Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak. I once thought that there were a handful of the 14'ers that I wouldn't attempt due to my dislike of standing on cliffs. However, after having done these three on top of having a brain tumor, I resolved that I would climb the remainder. I was tremendously moved by the people that I've met that either have brain tumors or care for a loved one that has a brain tumor. In my mind, there is no better way to try to help these people than to continue my quest for all 54 14'er summits and raise money for the benefit of the American Brain Tumor Association. Listed below are the 19 14'ers that were part of the fundraiser. For more information on the Colorado 14'ers, please see My 14'er Log. 19 14'ers - These were climbed:
