We invite you to rent high quality working llamas and all the necessary pack gear for an exciting adventure in the backcountry of Idaho and Oregon. Llamas are the ideal pack animal to access and fish high mountain lakes, for bowhunting or rifle hunting deer and elk, or allowing you to take the whole family on wilderness trips. Enjoy stimulating hikes through high mountain trails, spectacular scenery, hearty meals, campfire camaraderie, and let our llamas pack all the gear to do it!

First time llama renters! What a trip!
Enhance the quality of your outdoor adventures by using llama companions. Now you can pack in float tubes to fish those high mountain lakes, get back in several miles away from the crowds to hunt big game (see Fishing and Hunting with Llamas), and take the entire family on backcountry adventures. Read the account of Catlin Gable students from Portland, Oregon on their June 2009 rental at Catlin Gable School Trip.

No more freeze-dried or dehydrated backpacking food. When packing with llamas, you can enjoy delightful meals such as, Dutch oven dinners, cobblers with whipped cream, steak, eggs and pancakes for breakfast, yogurt, fresh fruit, crisp green salads and delectable desserts. Each llama pack is designed to carry a hard plastic cooler to pack your fresh meat, vegetables, fruit and those cold drinks. Meals can be enjoyed under a large dining tarp with roll-up tables and chairs. It can be as comfortable as car camping in the wilderness!

Experienced llama trekker on backcountry adventure! On the trail, llamas are true packing partners. They typically carry between 60 and 80 pounds of gear and walk along at an easy going gait, covering approximately two miles per hour and 8-10 miles per day over moderately-difficult trails. Llamas follow one another quite naturally. This allows more than one llama to be tied together to form a llama pack-string.
Their sharp eyesight and hearing, along with their alertness, often lead them to spot wildlife and other travelers on the trail well before you do. They are quite curious and show a keen interest in new surroundings. Some of our llamas will readily accept young lightweight riders, which can be a big advantage for family outings.

At THUNDER CREEK LLAMAS we take pride in breeding and training high quality working llamas. Referred to as the classic llama by some, these are the tall and powerful, short-wool working llamas. They are hardy and athletic, with a pleasing personality and the desire and stamina to follow you almost anywhere you can go. We also take pride in providing you with quality pack gear that is simple, rugged, and ideally suited for backcountry packing. You pick the trail and dates, provide your camping gear and food, and we can help with the rest. Get in touch soon for more information about llama rental, pack equipment, hunting and fishing with llamas, or to schedule a reservation.
