The Pelican
This is the COOLEST thing out there, especially for the summer time. It's actually a waterproof camera case and I heard about it
on one of the PH mailing lists last year. I also saw one at the PHA Conference last June and, once I saw how small it was, I came home and ordered me one.
All I had to do to make it work to keep my pump dry while the rest of me is in the water was drill a single hole
into the side for the extension tubing to connect through:
This allows the male connector on the short section of tubing on the cassette on the inside of the case to fit through and connect with
the female connector on the extension tubing. I added an O-ring to make sure the connection was waterproof.
For making sure my cath site stayed dry, I put a soft, silicone earplug right over the entry and taped it down tightly with a Tegaderm patch.
Then I cut a slice halfway into a foam earplug and sort of wrapped it around the piece of tubing exposed at the bottom of the patch. Then I put
another, larger Tegaderm over the top of that one making sure it sealed as tightly as possible against my skin. Gentiva does not encourage or endorse this, by the way. But
some of us do as we please contrary to directions. Just make sure you clean your site and redress it after swimming. I also can't recommend trying this
for surfing or other water sports. I'd stay poolside.
I then made a tether out of a dog lead to keep the case within the boundaries of the extnsion tubing and got into the pool! The case floated
on it's own and I just had to make sure no one got between me and it. This would also be a wise way to carry your case if you are going boating, just to be on the safe side.
