Want to see some pictures of our trip to Europe? We left on May 19, 2000 from Denver to London's Gatwick Airport. From there we flew on into Amsterdam. Leah's friend Johan lives in a town called Haarlem, which is only a few train stops away from Amsterdam.
Below: Leah and I in the "town square" in Amsterdam.
This
is Johan and I sitting in an outdoor cafe in Haarlem. Saturday is
market day, and there was a farmer's market going on, too.
Here's
Leah making friends with Johan's cat. She made lots of "furry friends"
on our trip!
Above is Johan and I walking down the narrow streets of Haarlem. Below: Leah and I at the North Sea.
One of the things we noticed in
Amsterdam AND Haarlem was that LOTS of people were on bikes! Here
you see the bike parking lot near the train station in Amsterdam.
Unlike here in the States, where a majority of people ride bikes for fun,
the folks in Europe use their bikes as their primary form of transportation.
And judging by the crazy drivers we encountered, I can see why bikes are
so popular!
And
what trip to the Netherlands would be complete without a ride in a giant
wooden shoe?
After Amsterdam, it was off to visit
my Tante Marianne and Uncle Leo in the town of Arnhem, Holland.
