Timeline and Narrative
Fall of 1366 Sir Tarley Dimm of Igg and his brother Sir Moril travel through Daggerdale on their way to the temple to Torn in ???. They are traveling with Angyll Wynterthorn. While on the road near Daggerdale they accept a request from Randal Morn to put and end to the “dream fever” plaguing the town. The party is joined by Thebileza,
the local cunning-woman, Daigon, the
local blacksmith, and Sigvard Grüsekopf,
a wandering gnome. The party discovers that Calderon Morn, an ancient lord of Daggerdale, has come back from the dead, and was inflicting the “dream fever” on the populous in an attempt to turn members of the community into nightshades (night dwarves) to build his base of power. The party defeats Calderon, explores his tomb beneath the town, and also helps the townsfolk overthrow the despotic reign of the town constable, Tren Noemfor, a Zentarim puppet. One of Randal Morn’s deputies, Selth, becomes mayor of the town. Sir Tarley Dimm of Igg was last seen leaving town arm in arm with a woman on a merchant caravan heading south. Fleauramond returns to his library in the woods. Angyll and Arianas left for the Elvish Court. Angyll trained in the Blade Song fighting style with his elvish father. Sir Moril continued his journey to ???? where he returned the service he had found at the ruined temple in Dagger Falls to the church of Lathander. In response, the church of Lathander granted Sir Moril and the church of Torm the land in Dagger Falls. Selth, mayor of Dagger Falls, gave a grant of land to add to Sir Moril’s holdings in the area. Winter of 1366-1367 Sir Moril accepts a squire, Rubin, from a local family. Sir Moril returns to Dagger Falls with a group of monks and establishes and builds a priory in Dagger Falls. Fall of 1367 Angyll meets Morin Brewer, an alchemist, on the road north to Dagger Falls. Angyll defeats Morin and takes his items: a spell book, magical dust, a magic mirror, and a diary. A spirit bedecked in plate mail has begun to kill people in the town. Conventional wisdom in the town suspects that Lathander has cursed the town for allowing Torm to build over his temple site. The party discovers that Egaryn, priestess of Cyric, is behind the monstrous invasion, and they kill her in her temple. • Party travels to Castle Daggerdale. They discover that the town’s men have been disappearing into the woods to the north, and the wife of the town’s leader, Marta, is requesting their help. The party accepts the quest and travels north into the woods. The party is severely hurt by a band of owlbears. Angyll goes for help and discovers a wood nymph glade. He agrees to remain indefinitely in the glade in exchange for the nymphs’ help. Characters discover drow patrol with two captives, Helmayo and Zäk. The party defeats the patrol and acquires a magic wand. Helmayo and Zäk join the party. The party finds a drow keep in the forest and enters. They discover a mining operation using enslaved locals for labor. They find a free the son of the bard Turin. The son claims his father knows more of the warhammer that Daigon weilds. The character clear the mines of orcs and drow. Unfortunately, in the process they succeed in killing 24 of the men who had been kidnapped by the drow. This unfortunate event leads to the destruction of the Wand of Wonder, at the insistence of Sir Moril. Sigvard turns into a bat and disappears during the climactic battle. After they return to Castle Daggerdale, they are asked to meet with Marta, who has become the new leader of the town. She chastises the group for their sloppy performance, but admits the results are bittersweet. The surviving men certainly owe the party their thanks. Marta’s husband was also killed in the fiery carnage, but she has no ill will toward the party members. She notes, however, that popular support for a backlash is forming in the town, and she suggests they quietly leave. Sir Moril has remains in Castle Daggerdale to help with the town’s recovery. The rest of the party proceeds to Shadowdale. • Sir Moril hears important news. First, Dagger Falls has been retaken by the Zentarim, in the person of Ilthond, a powerful wizard. Second, despite the efforts of Marta, the town has formed a posse—after a kangaroo court—to find Thebiliza and punish her for the deaths at the drow keep. Marta releases Sir Moril to keep the posse from killing the rest of the party. As thanks, she gives him her husband’s rod of power. Meanwhile, the party discovers a ritual sacrifice of a girl at Castle Krag and, after much probing, finds that the “Circle of Red” is thought to be responsible. Daigon confronted by Dwarves at Old Skill Inn, they demand the sword he carries, and but give him his warhammer’s command word Sir Moril reaches the town just in time to use the rod to turn the posse away from the party. • The party is approached by Lheo, scribe to Elminster the local mage of great power. He tells them than Randal Morn has disappeared with a party of his men in a attempt to recover the Sword of the Dales from the tomb of an ancient mage, Shraevyn. The party was ambushed by a force of Zentarim after they successfully recovered the Sword, almost all of whom they defeated. However, in their weakened state they were then beset upon by a band of undead rising from the nearby tomb. Some of Randal’s men escaped, to tell Lheo their tale, but Randal was presumed captured. Lheo promises a grant of land if the party succeeds. The party agrees to travel to the tomb to rescue Randal Morn. As they pass through the wood on their way to the tomb, they discover the encampment of a band of war orcs. The orcs have a young red dragon in tow. The party defeats the band and Sir Moril kills the dragon in single combat. Afterward, Rubin reveals himself as Blackwing, a silver dragon, who has been observing the party. He rewards the party by giving Sir Moril magical horseshoes for his steed. The characters reach the tomb and enter. They defeat undead and recover the Sword of the Dales. The find the following note attached to the sword: Seek me in Spiderhaunt. The survival of Daggerdale depends on the return of this blade to my hand. Send word to my sister, Silver Morn, of whatever should befall me. - R. M. • The characters travel to Spiderhaunt wood. Soon after entering they are ambushed by a group of Zhentarim. The party battles spiders as they penetrate the forest, before finally coming upon a gnomish town. The town leader, Telimas, identifies the tower that many of the characters had seen in dreams and implores them not to proceed. That night the town is attacked by ghasts. In the morning, Telimas—frightened that the characters brought the plague of ghasts, mentions that he would not stand in the way of the party, and indicates where the ruins from the dream are located. The party leaves with a gnome, Madarn, as guide. The party receives more dreams and visions. The party discovers the ruined tower and enters. As they enter, they discover they are being followed by a band of Zhentarim soldiers. The party heads down to the lower level of the tower and hears combat behind them as the Zhents follow. The party discovers Randal Morn encased in a magical globe of power. The spirit of the Sword of the Dales, Hedistrin, reveals herself, and instructs the party to kill the Zhent attackers. She instructs the party to first place their hands upon the skulls of the skeletons in a nearby room. The Zhent leader, who reveals himself as Ilthond, enters the room with a group of apprentices, who he gives indecipherable instructions to. The apprentices also head toward the skeleton room.
