Colorado Columbine
Visit the Colorado mountains in the early summer and you'll find plenty of the Colorado state flower growing on the mountainsides. I can grow them in my flower garden for a little while but then it gets too hot, as I live at a lower elevation.
Front Range vista
This is one of the first "keeper" shots I took with my new camera. It was taken on an October morning in the fall of 1999, at a small pond north of Longmont, Colorado, looking west toward the front range.

Sunset
My parents live on the plains of northeastern Colorado. The eastern half of Colorado is flat, not a mountain to be had. People hear I grew up in Colorado and immediately assume I'm a ski bum -- not so! It was a four hour trip for us to get to the slopes from where I grew up. But, we get some awesome sunsets, and there's nothing to obstruct the view (except maybe the occasional oil well pump!)

Lunar Eclipse, January 20, 2000
The advantages of having kids is that you get to play with their toys. One of my sons has a telescope which got set up on the driveway on the evening of January 20, 2000. From about 9:00 p.m. until we got tired of watching, we got to view a full lunar eclipse, complete with reddish tint due to the light passing through Earth's atmosphere. The first picture was taken just before the earth's shadow completely covered the moon. The second picture was taken only about 5 minutes later. I had fun taking these pictures and my fingers only got half frozen while holding the digital camera up to the telescope!
