Charlie is our 18 month old
Eclectus. We have enjoyed him
immensely. He is talking up a
storm. What ya doing? Charlie is
a good boy, give me a kiss, and
here kitty, kitty ,kitty are among
his favorite lines. We are working
on songs. I start singing Pussy
Cat, Pussy Cat and he finishes
the I Love YOU part of the song.
I let all of my pet birds outside on
my patio for about an hour a day.
I stay with them and read or talk
on the phone. They are good at
staying there. I never have any
problem with them leaving the
area. They all have their wings
clipped.
During the nice weather, they all
have out door cages where they
spend most of the day.

Larry Bird, (shown below ) our
parakeet is the only pet bird who
is flighted. I do not allow him
outside. Instead, he comes out in
the evenings. He flies from cage
to cage visiting all of the big birds.
He regurgitates seed to all of
them. Because of this, they all
love him.
Charlie loves a puppet macaw.
He tries to feed it.
Larry Bird and Barkley are the
best of friends. They play "race
and chase" together. The
parakeet instigates the action by
dive bombing the dog. It is
amazing to watch and looks
dangerous for the bird. They have
been doing it without injury for 6
years now. The dog is slowing
with age, but the birds enthusiam
never ends. We leave "boneys" on
the counter for the bird to give to
the dog.
Barkley has never shown anything
but love for the birds. However,
this may not be true for any other
dogs. So, as they say on TV,
don't try this at home.
Eddie is our cockatiel. He, too is
so amazing. He will perform for
anyone on cue. He loves books
and will immediately talk and
whistle to any picture. He
especially loves cockatiel
pictures.
Eddie was named "Special
Eddie" because my son thought
he has "special ed-(ucation)"
material when we got him.
It turned out, he was just very
young and hadn't learned to even
perch yet. I would recommend
getting birds young. He learned
words instead of bird talk. He
could learn to whistle a new song
in just minutes when he was
young.
Nikki is our new citron cockatoo.
I finished hand raising her and
enjoyed the experience.
I had never won anything before.
That was before these two. I won
each of these guys in two
separate raffles. They are
Senegals. Despite not even being
related, they often act like clones
of each other. They are such
clowns.
