These aviaries are on the other
side of my house. Again this has a stone path with a bridge, waterfalls and several park benches and sitting areas to make the most of the jungle escape. |
|
The gazebo was make from
scrape wood from decking around an old discarded hot tub. My husband had asked my son to drag the wood to the curb for the annual debris pick up. I couldn't let that happen and turned it into this gorgeous aviary. |
|
My aviaries are on the sides of my
house rather than the back. This is because I live on a lake and have a Home Owners Association. Make sure you check with any association before building in your area.. |
|
The sides of my firesplace are
hand painted scenes They are inclosed with fruit netting with birds inside. This netting is great indoors. I've sewn upholstery fabric around the edges and attached it to the wall with decorative tacks.
The scenes are from all over our
lake area with birds and wildlife through out the picture. |

Left- This aviary is a "bump in" in
our entry way, designed for a large vase or floral arrangement. It makes a cosy home for 2 shafttail finches. Again, the fruit netting is used and with upholstery fabric edging. Four inches of plexie glass is used along the lower edge to contain the corn cob and bird debris, |

Below are two of the Glass
aviaries I've made. Left- the front was made from an old fireplace glass door. Below-(my mother's aviary) An old waterbed hutch is made into an extraordinary incloser. The wood and glass for both of these avairies was found at a local Goodwill stores on half price day.(for around $5 each) |

A window seat makes a great
setting for an outdoor aviary. The picture on the right shows my window seat with an aviary view. I used the fruit netting for this outdoor aviary. Most cage wire would obstruct the view and have an undesirable appearance. Fruit netting is durable however, mice can chew through it. Do not use it unless you are sure no preditors can get into it. If birds escape, they are usually lost forever.
The only entrance to this aviary is
through the windows. This a somewhat awkward to clean. |
