The following website is designed to tell the story of
Benjamin & Elizabeth Bull of Derbyshire, England
Benjamin Bull, Sr was born in the County of Derbyshire around 1781.  According to the 1841 Census of England, Benjamin lived with his wife, Elizabeth (born 1786), at 18 Bag Lane, in the Parish of St. Peter in the town of Derby.  Although not conclusive, parish records state that a Benjamin Bull married on July 5th 1809 in St Peter, Derby.  The bride is identified as Elizabeth Benskin.  Elizabeth probably passed away in Derby in the 1840's.  Benjamin passed away there on January 7th 1846. If Benjamin and Elizabeth were indeed married in Derby, they left soon after, and lived in the Parish of Shepshed (also spelled Sheepshead), in the adjacent County of Leicestershire.  Records from that parish show that Benjamin and Elizabeth Bull had at least six children:  Mary, Rebecca, Ann, Jane, Benjamin, Jr, and Selina.

The following information is derived from census records for 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901, and 1911.  It is also derived from Parish Records, and English Birth, Death, and Marriage Records. 

 
Mary Bull was born in Shepshed in 1810, and christened there on July 2nd 1810.  No other records of her have been found.

 
Rebecca Bull was born in Shepshed on August 14th 1813, and christened there on July 5th 1824.  On August 28th 1832, she married Joseph Orme in St. Peter, Derby.  Together, they had a family of eight children:  Mary Ann; Edwin; Jane; Rebecca; Joseph; James; Rosa Anne; and Frances.  Joseph Orme worked as a “Licsensed Victualler” and a “Publican” at such places as Star Inn and the Prince Albert Inn in Derby.  Joseph Orme passed away in Derby in September of 1861.  Rebecca lived there until her own death, on May 7th 1874.
Mary Ann Orme was born in Derby in 1833.  In 1852, she married James Caulton Bulmer (1832-1875), also a Publican.  Mary Ann and James Bulmer had seven children, all born in Derby:  Mary, Ruth, Frederick, Jane, Amelia, James, and Elizabeth.  A little unusually, all seven children had the same middle name as their father:  Caulton.
Mary Bulmer was born in Derby in 1853.  She married William Hollingworth, and lived in Shardlow, Derbyshire.
Ruth Bulmer was born in Derby in 1855.  She married Henry William Pywell (b. 1854), a Saddler and Harness Maker, in Derby in 1877.  Together they had six children:  George Ernest (b. 1877), Frank (b. 1881), Ethel (b. 1882; married Walter Cotterill in 1908), Beatrice Jane (b. 1884), Edith Annie (b. 1887), and Harold James (b. 1897).
Frederick Bulmer, also a Publican, was born in Derby in 1858.  He married Sarah Ann Jackson (1857-1892) in Derby in 1881.  They had two daughters:  Annie Caulton (b. 1883), and Ada Caulton (b. 1887).  Frederick Bulmer passed away in Derby in 1894.
Jane Bulmer was born in Derby in 1860.  She passed away there in 1883.
Amelia Bulmer was born in Derby in 1862.  She married Frederick Jenkins (1852-1883) in Derby in 1879.  They had two children: Jane (b. 1880) and Frederick John Jenkins (b. 1881).  In 1889, Amelia remarried, to John Hirons (b. 1839).  They are found in the Census of 1891, but not thereafter.
James Bulmer was born in 1864 in Derby.  He married Mary Louisa Summerside (b. 1869) in Derby in 1893.  They had two daughters:  Mary (b. 1896), and Vera Edith (b. 1900).
Elizabeth Bulmer was born in Derby in 1868.  She married Albert Bingham (b. 1866) in Derby in 1891.  They had a daughter, Florence, who was born in Derby in 1894.
Edwin Orme was born in Derby in 1835.  He married Harriet Sophia Roome (1834-1887) in Derby in 1854, and they had six children: Ann, Jane, Harriet, Fanny, Edwin, and Clara.  Harriet passed away in Derby in 1887; Edwin passed away there in 1889.
Ann Orme was born in Derby in 1855.
Jane Orme was born in Derby in 1857.  She married David Godsmark (1856-1887) in Derby in 1878.  They had five children:  John Mayo (1879-1936), Ann (Annie) (b. 1880), Edwin (1882-1955), Samuel (1885-1943), and Sarah Jane (b. 1887).  Jane passed away in Derby in 1915.
Harriet Orme was born in Derby in 1859.  She married Nehemiah Spencer (b. 1855) in Derby in 1888.  They had no children.  Harriet passed away in Derby in 1899.
Fanny Orme was born in Derby in 1864.  She married Charles Hayes (1857-1881) in Derby in 1879.  They had one daughter, Harriet, who was born in Derby in 1881.
Edwin Orme was born in Derby in 1876.
Clara Orme was born in Derby in 1879.
Jane Orme was born in Derby in 1837.  In 1857, she married Samuel Ripley (b. 1837) in Derby.  They had three children:  Eugene, Nora, and Ada.  Jane passed away before 1871.
Eugene Ripley was born in Derby in1858.  He married Emily Susannah Topper in 1888.  Together, they had four children: Florence (b. 1890), Samuel (b. 1892), Emma (born 1893), and Minnie (b. 1895).
Nora Ripley was born in Derby in 1859.  She is specifically mentioned in the will of her grandmother, Rebecca Orme, as receiving the sum of £10.00.
Ada Ripley was born in Derby in 1860.
Rebecca Orme was born in Derby in 1859.  Her first husband was Thomas Fowlston (1833-1865), a Gas Fitter whom she married in Derby in 1858.  Together they had two children:  Sarah and Thomas Joseph.  In 1867, Rebecca remarried, to George Smith (b. 1844), a Brewer.  Rebecca and George had no children.
Sarah Fowlston was born in Derby in 1862.
Thomas Joseph Fowlston was born in Derby in 1863.  He married Elizabeth Owen in Derby in 1886, and had two children:  Mary Rose (b. 1887), and Thomas Frederick (b. 1889).
Joseph Orme was born in Derby in 1841.  He made his living as an Iron Moulder.  In 1862, he married Elizabeth Suddall (1843-1907).  Together, they had eight children:  Sarah Eliza, Richard, Mary, Emma, Amelia, Joseph, Elizabeth, and William.  Joseph Orme lived in Derby until his death, in 1909.
Sarah Eliza Orme was born in Derby in 1863.  She married John Hudson (b. 1859) in Derby in 1891, and they had three children:  Joseph (b. 1892), John Henry (b. 1897), and Doris (b. 1899).
Richard Orme was born in Derby in 1865.  He married Annie Austin in Derby in 1891, and had two children:  Annie (b. 1892), and William (b. 1899).
Mary Orme was born in Derby in 1868.  As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
Emma Orme was born in Derby in 1873.  She is found with her family in the Census of 1891, but not thereafter.
Amelia Orme was born in Derby in 1876.  As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
Joseph Orme was born in Derby in 1877.  As of 1901, he was still single, and still lived at home.
Elizabeth Orme was born in Derby in 1880.  As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
William Orme was born in Derby in 1884.  As of 1901, he was still single, and still lived at home.
James Orme was born in Derby in 1846.  Like others in his family, he was a “Licsensed Victualler” and a “Publican.”  In 1868, he married Eliza Warren (1842-1879).  They had one daughter, Clara, who was born in 1870, and passed away when she was only 8 years old.  James passed away in 1878, aged just 32.
Rosa Anne Orme was born in Derby in 1849.  She married James Stretton (1834-1913) in Derby in 1866.  The Strettons had no children.  Rosa passed away in Nottingham in 1911.
Frances Orme was born in Derby in 1850.  She married Joseph Bregazzi (1849-1903) in Derby in 1867.  As Joseph worked with the railroads, they moved to Brecon, Wales, where they raised their son, Joseph Edwin.  Frances passed away in Brecon in 1895.
Joseph Edwin Bregazzi was born in Derby in 1870.  He moved with his family to Brecon, Wales.  In 1894, he married Alice Lloyd.

 
Ann Bull was born in Shepshed on November 8th 1815, and christened there on December 14th 1815.  On May 18th 1834, she married James Bannister in St. Peter, Derby.  Together, they had a family of nine children:  Ann; Susannah; Mary; Fanny; James; John; Jane; Frederick George; and Clara.  James Bannister worked as a “Watchmaker & Jeweller” until his death on February 23rd 1866.  Ann Bannister had already passed away in Derby late in 1858. 
Ann Bannister was born in Derby in 1835.  She is found with her parents in the Census of 1841 and 1851, but not thereafter.
Susannah Bannister was born in Derby in 1837.  She lived with her parents until their respective deaths, after which she became effective head of the family.  Like her father, she made her living as a jeweller, and as a silversmith.  She never married.  Susannah passed away in Derby in 1917.
Mary Bannister was born in Derby in 1841.  In 1866, in Shardlow, Derbyshire, she married Josiah Kearsley (1843-1872).  They had one daughter, Clara Louisa.  Following the death of her husband, Mary lived with her elder sister, Susannah, until her own death in 1909.
Clara Louisa Kearsley was born in Derby in 1868.  She is found living with her mother, still single, as late as the Census of 1901.
Fanny Bannister was born in Derby in 1843.  She is found with her parents for the Census of 1851 and 1861.  She passed away in Bakewell, Derbyshire in 1866.
James Bannister was born in Derby in 1845.  He married Selina Goodlad in Matlock, Derbyshire in 1876, and had six children:  Ann, James, Selina, Fanny, William, and Hannah.  Like others in his family, James worked as a Watchmaker, before passing away in 1886.
Ann Bannister was born in Derby in 1878.  She is found with her mother in the Census of 1891, but not thereafter.
James Bannister, Jr. was born in Derby in 1879.  As of 1901, he was still single, and still lived at home.
Selina Bannister was born in Derby in 1880. She is found with her mother in the Census of 1891, but not thereafter.
Fanny Bannister was born in Derby in 1882.  She is found with her mother in the Census of 1891, but not thereafter.
William Bannister was born in Derby in 1884.  As of 1901, he was still single, and still lived at home.
Hannah Bannister was born in Derby in 1885.  As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
John Bannister was born in Derby in 1848.  He worked as a Plumber in the community of Matlock, Derbyshire.  In 1870, he married Sarah Smith (b. 1853), and had a large family of eleven children: Clara Elizabeth, James Owen, Annie, Jane, Edith, Tom Arthur, John, Eliza May, William James, Sarah Helen, and Fred.
Clara Elizabeth Bannister was born in Matlock in 1871.  In 1894, she married Albert Victor Goodlad (b. 1867), and had two daughters:  Clarice (b. 1896), and Dorothy (b. 1900).
James Owen Bannister was born in Matlock in 1872, and passed away there in 1884.
Annie Bannister was born in Matlock in 1874.  She married Frank Wilson Swain (b. 1869), a Railway Worker, in 1900.
Jane Bannister was born in Matlock in 1876.  In 1900, she married Arthur Keeling (b. 1876), a Plumber.
Edith Bannister was born in Matlock in 1878. As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
Tom Arthur Bannister was born in Matlock in 1880.  In 1903, he married Lucy Sulley in Matlock.
John Bannister was born in Matlock in 1882.  He is found with his parents in the Census of 1891, but not thereafter.
Eliza May Bannister was born in Matlock in 1885.  As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
William James Bannister was born in Matlock in 1887. As of 1901, he was still single, and still lived at home.
Sarah Helen Bannister was born in Matlock in 1888, and passed away there in 1893.
Fred Bannister was born in Matlock in 1890.  As of 1901, he was with his parents.
Jane Bannister was born in Derby in 1849.  In 1869, she married John Owen Cooper in Derby.  Nothing is known about Jane and John Cooper after that time.
Frederick Bannister was born in Derby in 1852.  In 1875, he married Susan Allcock (b. 1854) in Derby.  They are found with their children in the Census of 1881, 1891, and 1901.  In both 1881 and 1891, Fred is identified as a Publican, and the Proprietor of the Nottingham Arms at 109 Litchurch Street.  By 1901, Fred and family had moved to a new address, but he was still a Publican.  The children of Fred and Susan Bannister were:  Ethel May, Frederick George, Eveline Beatrice and Mabel.
Ethel May Bannister was born in Derby in 1875.  In 1892, she married Albert Mellor (b. 1872), a Railway Clerk.  Together, they had two children:  Edith May (b. 1893), and Reginald Clarence (b. 1895).
Frederick George Bannister was born in Derby in 1877. As of 1901, he was still single, and still lived at home.
Eveline Beatrice Bannister was born in Derby in 1879. As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
Mabel Bannister was born in Derby in 1881. As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
Clara Bannister was born in Derby in 1855.  In 1876, she married George Arnold (b. 1850), a Railway Worker.  They had four children:  Edith Clara, Frederick George, Alice Elizabeth, and Arthur Edward.  Clara Arnold passed away in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire in 1887.  Following Clara's death, George Arnold remarried, and began a second family.
Edith Clara Arnold was born in Derby in 1878; Alice Elizabeth was born there in 1882.  By 1901, the two sisters were on their own, living at 13 Milton Avenue, Hornsey (a north London suburb), working as typists.
Frederick George Arnold was born in Derby in 1880.  By 1901, he lived next door to his sisters in Hornsey.  His occupation is described as Office Clerk.
Arthur Edward Arnold was born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire in 1886.  In 1901, he is found living with his father and stepmother.

 
Jane Bull was born in Shepshed on March 18th 1818, and christened there on April 12th 1818.  No other records of her have been found.

 
According to the parish records from Shepshed, Benjamin Bull, Jr. was born there on September 9th 1823, and christened on July 5th 1824.  On September 25th 1843, Benjamin Bull, Jr. married Elizabeth Keeling in St. Alkmund's Church in the parish of Duffield, Derbyshire.  Benjamin identified his occupation as “Jeweller”.  By 1851, Benjamin and his family had moved to Birmingham, where he would spend the remainder of his life working as a jeweller.  Benjamin and Elizabeth Bull had five children: John H, Clara Jane, Alice Mary, Reuben Benjamin, and Kate Ellen.  Elizabeth Bull passed away in Birmingham early in 1877.  Benjamin Bull, Jr. passed away there on February 22nd 1891.
John H. Bull was born in Birmingham in 1848.  He is found living at home, and working as a jeweller as late as 1881.  There is no record of him thereafter.
Clara Jane Bull was born in Birmingham in February of 1851.  In 1875, she married James Edward Calloway (b. 1853), a Silver Engraver.  Together they had five children:  Lillian Emily, Elizabeth, John Benjamin, James Edward, and Wilfred Bladon.  Clara Calloway passed away near Birmingham in 1905.
Lillian Emily Calloway was born on August 17th 1875.  In 1899, she married John Thomas Garner (b. 1873).  By the time of the 1901 Census, they had a son, Thomas (b. 1900).
Elizabeth Calloway was born on January 12th 1878. In 1904, she married Edwin Geens.  Together they had four children:  Sidney Edwin, Ethel Elizabeth, Daisy Hilda, and Mabel Lilian Geens.
John Benjamin Calloway was born May 12th 1879.  He married Edith Jessie Myatt in 1905, and had five children:  Muriel Jessie, Elsie, John, Marion, and Janet Calloway.
James Edward Calloway was born February 9th 1881.  In 1904, he married Lily Blanche Simpson and had two daughters, Doris and Eileen Calloway.
  • Doris Calloway was born on March 6th 1905.  In 1929, she married Harold coles (1904-1986).  Doris and Harold were the parents of Barry James Coles.  Doris Coles passed away in 1993.
Wilfred Bladon Calloway was born April 4th 1883.  In 1909, he married Fanny Essex.  They had one daughter, Ivy Frances Calloway.
Alice Mary Bull was born in Birmingham on October 11th 1855.  She married Thomas Wilson (b. 1854) in Birmingham in 1876.  Thomas Wilson earned his living as a Locksmith.  Together, Alice and Thomas Wilson had seven children:  Kate, Alice, Elizabeth, Clara, Lilly, Benjamin, and Florence.
Kate Wilson was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire in 1877. As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
Alice Wilson was born in Birmingham in 1879.  She is found living at home in 1891, but no record exists for her thereafter.
Elizabeth Wilson was born in Birmingham in 1880.  She is found living at home in 1891, but no record exists for her thereafter.
Clara Wilson was born in Birmingham in 1882. As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home. 
Lilly Wilson was born in Birmingham in 1886. As of 1901, she was still single, and still lived at home.
Benjamin Wilson was born in Birmingham in 1888. As of 1901, he was still single, and still lived at home.
Florence Wilson was born in Birmingham in 1890. She married Harry Field.  They emigrated to Queensland, Australia, where their daughter, Olive, was born in 1923.
  • Olive Field married Harry Warnick, and had one son, Bernard.
Reuben Benjamin Bull was born in Birmingham on February 18th 1858.  Like his father, he worked as a Jeweller.  Reuben never married.  He died in Birmingham in 1908.
Kate Ellen Bull was born in Birmingham in 1860.  She is found living with her family in the Census of 1891.  In 1894, she married Jonathan Townsend.  Sadly, Kate Ellen Townsend passed away in 1897.

 
Selina Bull was born in Shepshed in 1826.  In the Census of 1841, she is found living with her parents in Derby.  After that, things become somewhat more complicated.  In the Census of 1851, she is found as “Unmarried,” and a “Servant” in the Home of William Wilson (1823-1878).  The relationship between Selina Bull and William Wilson is somewhat undefined, but must have more approximated a Common Law marriage than anything else, for living in the same home are her two children, William and Mary Ann Bull.  The birth registers of each child has a blank space for the father's name, but William Bull's marriage registry identifies his father as William Wilson.  Why this relationship was never legalized is unknown.  All chance of a marriage was lost when Selina Bull died in the home of William Bull, on January 12th 1853..

William Wilson was born in Meashem, Derbyshire in 1823, and baptized there on June 27th 1824.  His parents were Thomas Wilson (1783-1838), a carpenter, and Ann Sylvester (1784-1855).  In addition to William, Thomas and Ann were the parents of John, Mary, Sarah, Thomas, Robert, and Ann.
William Bull was born in Derby on March 10th 1848.  As indicated above, the identity of his father is not stated on the birth registry, but was in fact William Wilson.  It seems most likely that William was raised unaware of his illegitimate status.  He is not found in either the Census of 1861 or 1871 as William Bull.  However, in the Census of 1861, there is a William Wilson, born in Derby in 1848, living with a John Wilson, and working as a “Boatman's Lad.”  Even as late as the Census of 1871, he seems to be identified as William Wilson, living in the home of his aunt, Fanny Wilson.  On December 4th 1872, he married Charlotte Bilson (daughter of Joseph Bilson and Jane Bailey).  On this registry he uses the family name Bull - the name he would use for the rest of his life - but identifies his father as William Wilson.  The most logical explanation is that his marriage required some form of legal identification, and it was at the age of 22 that William learned that his family name was not Wilson, it was Bull.

According to information provided for the Census of 1911, William and Charlotte Bull had a family of fourteen children.  However, records can be found for only eleven of these children:  William, Selina, Joseph, Eliza Ann, Arthur, Lilly, Charlotte, Mary Anne, Frederick George, Alice, and Rose.  William supported this family by working as an Iron Moulder.  He passed away in Derby on May 26th 1905.  Charlotte passed away there on December 26th 1914.
William Bull was born in Derby on December 15th 1873.  He is found with his parents in the Census of 1881 and 1891, but not thereafter.
Selina Bull was born November 30th 1876 in Derby.  On August 29th 1899, she married John William Holmes.  They had a family of five children:  Florence May, Frederick Frank William, Ernest Alan, Ellen, and Gladys Holmes.  Selina Holmes died on January 12th 1937, in Toronto - whence the family had emigrated in 1903.  More can be learned about this family by following the link to the Holmes Family History.
Joseph Bull was born in Derby in 1878. He is found with his parents in the Census of 1881 and 1891.  By 1901, Joseph appears to have moved to the City of Cork, Ireland, where he married a woman named Helena Healy.  Joseph returned to Derby with his family by 1907; according to the 1911 Census of England, Joseph and his family lived at 205 Stockbrook Street, just down the street from his mother.  Joseph and Helena Bull had five children:  William, Hannah, Joseph Francis, Richard, and John Henry.  Helena Bull passed away in 1931; Joseph passed away in 1933.
  • William Bull was born in Cork, Ireland in 1906.
  • Hannah Bull was born in Derby on July 20th 1907.  She marriet Albert H. Heath in Derby in 1928.  Hannah and Albert were the parents of Margaret, Joyce, Michael, and Patricia Heath.
  • Joseph Francis Bull was born in Derby in 1910, and passed away there in 1913.
  • Richard Bull was born in Derby in 1911.
  • John Henry Bull was born in Derby on January 2nd 1914, and passed away there in October of 1987.
Eliza Ann Bull was born in Derby on January 23rd 1881.  She is found with her parents in the Census of 1891, but by 1901, she was working as a Domestic Servant.  In 1904, she married Henry Orme.  Eliza Ann and Henry had a family of four children:  William Henry, Annie, Alice May, and Joseph.  Eliza Ann also had a child born before her marriage, a daughter named Lily Ethel Bull.
  • Lily Ethel Bull was born in Derby on September 3rd 1899.  She is found in the home of her grandparents for the censuses of 1901 and 1911.  In 1918, she married Albert H. Gibbs.  Together, they had one daughter, Gladys.
  • William Henry Orme was born in Derby in 1905.  He married Mary Clifton on September 17th 1927.
  • Annie Orme was born in Derby in 1906.  She married George Henry Cawdell, and had three sons:  Gordon, Derek, and Leon.
  • Alice May Orme was born in Derby in 1908.  She married Edwin Redfern in Derby in 1929.
  • Joseph Orme was born in Derby in 1910, and passed away there in 1924. 
Arthur Bull was born in Derby in 1883. In 1903, he married Alice Ann Bridges.  Together, Arthur and Alice had ten children: Arthur William, Ellen, Annie, Gertrude Lillian, Olive, William, John, Rose, May, and Walter.

  • Ellen Bull was born in Derby on February 11th 1910.  She married Anthony Lambert (1907-1981) in Derby in 1929.  Together they had a family of 15 children: Arthur, Frederick, Anthony, John, Brian, Dennis, Roy, David, Kenneth, Margart Helen, Patricia, Rita, Peter, George, and Jean.  Ellen passed away in Derby in 1964.
  • Annie Bull was born in Derby on January 29th 1911.  In 1936, she married Joseph Lambert (1907-1937), twin brother of Ellen's husband, Anthony Lambert.  Following his untimely death, Annie married a second time, to Herbert Roome, in 1939.  Annie passed away in Derby in 1969.
  • Gertrude Lillian Bull was born in Derby on May 31st 1913.  She married George Millington (1909-1995) in 1934.  They had one son, George E. Millington.  Gertrude passed away in Derby in 1986.
  • Olive Bull was born in Derby in 1915.  In 1936, she married Albert Roome (1909-1983). (Albert was the younger brother of Herbert Roome, the second husband of Annie Bull.)  Olive passed away in Derby in 1963.
  • William H. Bull was born in Derby in 1917.  He married Constance L. Briggs in 1939, and had one daughter, Brenda M. Bull.
  • John Bull was born in Derby in 1919.
  • Rose Emily Bull was born in Derby on October 22nd 1920.  She married William Harrison (1915-1999), and had four children: Pauline, Keith, William, and Patricia Harrison.  Rose passed away in Derby in 1974.
  • May Bull was born in Derby in 1922.
  • Walter S. Bull was born in Derby in 1923.  In 1944, he married Doris M. Turner.  Walter and Doris had three children: Marlene, Leslie, and Stephen.
Lily Bull was born on October 22nd 1884, and passed away in Derby in 1896.
Charlotte Bull was born in Derby on December 17th 1885. In 1919, she married Tom Taylor.  Charlotte and Tom had two children: Tom  and Lucy.

Mary Anne (Annie) Bull was born in Derby on November 5th 1889. In 1912, she married John Brindley.  Annie and John were the parents of William,  George Henry, David, Annie, and Winifred.
  • William J. Brindly was born in Derby in 1912.  In 1936, he married Annie Johnson.  Together they had one son, Alan W. Brindey.
  • George Henry Brindley was born in Derby on July 31st 1914.  In 1937, he married Florence M. Fletcher.  They had one daughter, Patricia.  George passed away in Derby in 1985.
  • Annie Brindley was born in 1926.  In 1945, she married Leonard Butler.
  • Winifred Brindley was born in 1929.  She married Benjamin P. Charles in Derby in 1952.
Frederick George Bull was born in Derby in 1891.  He passed away there one year later.
Alice Bull was born on November 30th 1892.  In 1914, she married John Fletcher.  Alice and John had four children: Maud, Christopher, and Margaret (Peggy).  Alice also had a child born before her marriage, a daughter named Florence M. Bull.

  • Peggy Fletcher married John H. Hood in Derby in 1955.  They are the parents of Susan M. Hood.
Rose Bull was born in Derby in 1895.  She married Thomas Hayes in Derby in 1914, and had two children, Rose  and Irene .
  • Rose Hayes was born in Derby in 1914.  She married Lawrence B. Whelan in 1935, and had two daughters, Janet and Valerie.
  • Irene Hayes was born in Derby on October 13th 1916.  She married Frank Wildgoose in Derby in 1941.  Irene and Frank were the parents of David, Susan, and Janice.  Irene Wildgoose passed away in Derby in 1972.
Mary Ann Bull was born in Derby on June 3rd 1850.  As is the case for her brother, no father's name is given on her birth registry.  A search of census records for 1861 and 1871 reveals no Mary Ann Bull born in Derby in 1850.  Indeed, in the Census of 1861, she is identified as Mary Wilson, in the home of her father, William.  In 1870, however, William Wilson married.  Perhaps children from his earlier relationship were no longer welcome in his home.  Therefore, although she is still identified as Mary Wilson in the Census of 1871, Mary is found as a Lodger in the home of Thomas Ballard, and working as a Mill Hand.  If it was the 1872 marriage of William Bull that revealed his true name, then obviously Mary Ann would also have learned of her illegitimate status at the same time.  Thus, Mary Ann also reverted to using the family name of Bull.

Beginning with the Census of 1881, and continuing through to 1901, a Mary Ann Bull, born in Derby in 1850, appears in the records.    In 1881, she is found working as a Governess in the home of Hugh F. Pritchard in Denbigh, Wales.  In 1891, she is a Governess in the home of Charles and Emily Mansfield of Tenby, Wales.  By 1901, she is listed as the Companion of Emily Mansfield.  No record of her exists after 1901.
