Dinner in Cottonwood
Night Ride - September 2002
Left Phoenix midafternoon and headed up I-17 for Cottonwood with a gas stop in Camp Verde. We had a wonderful dinner with Peaches, Greg, Candy, and Joe at Murphy's Grill in Cottonwood, then it was up through Jerome, over Mingus Mountain (with a couple stops to admire the stars) and into Prescott for another gas stop. Went out through People's Valley stopping in Yarnell to stretch our legs before heading down the hill to Wickenburg. Came back in Highway 74 past Lake Pleasant to I-17, and made it home right on the stoke of 1:00am.
I don't do much night riding, so the transit of Mingus Mountain was a bit tense in the dark (and riding two up for the first time in years), but it was fabulous getting out of the valley heat if only for a few hours. It was cool enough at 7000 feet to require leathers, and it was still a bit brisk....but well worth the ride. Most of the time the only traffic we saw on the road for miles was us.......
