Here's my 6V6 Push-pull amp!
My First tube project.

6V6AmplifierPicture

Heres a pic of the little amp,It makes about 8watts per channel, both channels driven, before any signs of distortion.
I have modified the circuit a bit (larger coupling caps, cathode bypass caps, variable feedback,triode/tetrode switches.
Currently I Use some JAN/Phillips 6V6GT's,Sovtek 12AX7LPS's and a RCA 5U4GB (I prefer the "GB" version over the others in this amp,and yes,I *can* hear a difference!..have a look here
My Rectifier Ramblings.. )
Here's the story of the 6V6 Push-pull amplifier.I got it from a friend, who had pulled it from a Sears Silvertone console radio.
So he brought it over, and I hooked it up,and listened...I wasn't expecting it to be great, but it was pretty bad..The Treble and Midrange were nearly earsplitting, and there was hardly any bass at all. After all I had read about tube amps on rec.audio.tubes,and a few websites,I knew it had to be better than this.. So,I ditched the preamp all together, and decided to rebuild the power amp from the ground up.I tore it down, sanded, and cleaned the chassis, and parts (after drilling out all those rivets!!) painted the chassis (getting paint to stick to aluminum is next to impossible!) and started reassembly!
I reused the old power supply filter cap, since it was in decent shape (still going strong!) and a few resistors that were in good condition.
all the other parts got replaced, and it got a fresh set of tubes after the initial "smoke test" and "burn in" for a bit, just to make sure it wasn't gonna explode. It ws good that I used "junk" tubes since at first I had the feedback backwards, and I saw fireworks in the tubes!
Luckily the amp survived without a problem.

So,after I got it all in working order,I hooked it up,put Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits CD in the player, and hit play.. sat back..

And was utterly speechless. It was,to say the least..AWESOME!! "Oh My God"  "*Thats* what it's all about!"
Stevie Nicks and the gang were *in my room.*  I nearly wet myself.

From that moment on,it had started...I felt it in my blood.......I......Was a tubehead.
SS be damned!! (well, with a couple of exceptions.)
