Nathanael's Experience in Potty Training

12 days old-
May 13th, 2000-   Nathanael joined our family on May 1st after a wonderful labor and birth.  He looks like a Johnson baby...a combination of all of us.   We are so blessed to have him!

My very first attempt to have him pee into our container was successful!  We decided to try a "Gladware" container made of plastic and fully disposable, if needed.  Nathanael had finished nursing and was  fussy and wiggly, so I took off his diaper and held the container beneath him.  I made the "ssss" sound and said "Go potty, Nathanael."  He let out a loud cry and then started peeing.  I praised him and kissed his little head.

Elly was watching this take place.  She thought it to be very comical.  She now walks around making the "ssss" sound, which has made me wonder if I should resort to using a verbal cue.  Suddenly my 17 month old daughter has the ability to cue my newborn to pee!  Perhaps I will  use positioning as the cue.

I have become very aware of my ability to sense that Nathanael needs to pee and poop.  When I was pregnant with him, I  often  could not remember when I felt the last movement from him.  On occasion I would worry about his health but each time I did,  Nathanael would move around, reassuring me that everything was ok.  This happened several times.  I am a Christian and do not embrace new age philosophy at all, but I do believe God created a connection between mother and baby that we do not fully understand.  I am finding this to be true with sensing his need to pee and poop.  I cannot explain it, but I know it is there.  I wonder if other mothers could confirm my beliefs.
